POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of a licensed clinician (nurse practitioner/physician assistant), the BHRT Assistant will provide exceptional care to patients seeking bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) services in a fast-paced work environment. Duties will include, but is not limited to, managing patient inquiries and follow-up, charting, and performing medical procedures such as EKG’s, in-body tests, blood pressure, pellet injections and phlebotomy. As a critical member of our interdisciplinary team, you’ll help ensure the provision of high quality care through administrative, staff and patient support.
POSITION TITLE: Medical Assistant (Hormone Therapy)
REPORTS TO: Medical Director of BHRT
LOCATION(S): Mountain View, Redwood City and Burlingame, CA
CLASSIFICATION: Regular, Full-Time, Non-Exempt
This role is eligible for a $1,000 sign on bonus after 90 days of employment
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide extraordinary patient care and customer service. Establish and maintain excellent rapport with patients to promote long-term program success.
- Manage initial patient inquiries and phone calls. Send reminders to patients for upcoming appointments, reschedule missed appointments, and provide follow-up post-visits.
- Conduct 1:1 member consultations ranging from in-depth initial consultations to weekly 15-minute check-ups.
- Assessment of proper labs in place prior to initial consultation (or other appointments). Alert clinician for phone follow up (lab reviews, questions on initial labs, follow up labs, and repeat thyroid or other panels).
- Under the direction of a licensed clinician, assist in bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) services, including phlebotomy, EKG’s, in-body tests, full body composition analysis, blood pressure readings, autoclaving and provision of sterile instruments, and vitamin and pellet injections.
- Assist with EMR charting under oversight of clinician to facilitate work flow and keep medication and problem lists up-to-date and organized and insertion doses, lot numbers and expiration dates on pellets properly recorded. Ensure proper identifying information (DOB, email, phone, other) is in EMR.
- Appropriately triage and facilitate medication refill requests and inquiries from pharmacies.
- Assist in daily clinic operations, including opening and closing procedures, and maintaining a tidy clinic environment. Manage and order BHRT inventory (pellets, supplements, etc.).
- Manage account balances and correcting outstanding debts and/or other inconsistencies
- Maintain a strong knowledge base and application of JSMD policies and procedures.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-2 years of experience in a customer-facing role, preferably in health and wellness and/or medical/clinical office setting.
- High School diploma required. AA, BS, or BA in nutrition, dietetics, or related field preferred.
- Medical Assistant and/or Phlebotomy certification preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multi-task, efficiently managing incoming calls and visitors.
- Proficient in MS Office 365, EHR/EMR systems and patient scheduling & billing systems.
- Professional, empathetic, positive, articulate, and proactive.
- Flexible, team-player mentality willing to assist where and as needed.
- Reliable means of personal transportation
