Position Summary
Performs general jail health nursing duties under the supervision of the agency. The Sheriff and/or designee work with the Jail Health Nurse and Jail Medical Advisor who has final medical judgment. The Jail Health Nurse will work cooperatively with the Jail Advisory Committee on as needed basis to address jail health needs. This position is responsible for the management of assigned jail health duties as described in the jail health policies. This position is specific to the needs of those suffering from SUD-Substance Use Disorder and MOUD-Medications for Opioid Use Disorder.
The following duties are normal for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.
- Individual must be able to assess inmates medical intakes and medical needs
- Individual must be comfortable working in a correctional jail facility
- Individual must maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA
- Individual must be able to travel for any required trainings
- Individual must utilize appropriate information release forms to effectively address medical and MAT (Medicated Assisted Treatment) needs of inmates in the Jail facility
- Individual needs to communicate information to work with case management, therapist and other medical staff to provide improved service for SUD (Substance Use Disorder/MOUD (Medication for Opioid Use Disorder) specific cases
- Individual must assist in data collection and supply it to Case Management as needed
- Individual should have clear, concise verbal and written communication skills
- Individual should have good time management skills and organizational skills
- All other duties as assigned
This position requires an Associates or preferred 4 year Bachelor degree in Nursing.
Experience with individuals with substance use and/or mental health issues is preferred

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with department personnel, clients, medical care providers, hospital and clinic personnel, educators, students, emergency medical personnel, community groups, social workers, health advocacy groups, and the general public.
Mathematical Ability
Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide, and calculate percentages, fractions, and decimals.

Ability to use functional reasoning development in performing functions within influence systems such as associated with supervising, managing, leading, teaching, directing, and controlling.

Ability to operate a calculator, sphygmomanometer, syringes, otoscope, stethoscope, computers, EKG, medical scanning equipment

Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, forms, sounds, odors, textures associated with objects, material and ingredients.
