Junior Chefs Kitchen Overview

Junior Chefs Kitchen (“JCK”) offers children’s cooking and nutrition classes located at 2448 N Lincoln Ave in Lincoln Park, Chicago serving children ages 2-18 at our studio and in nearby schools. Our mission is to increase access to the essential health information of food and nutrition by empowering youth with cooking skills and healthful eating resources that are good for people, the planet and our community.

Junior Chefs Kitchen is looking for driven, enthusiastic, friendly, professional and communicative individuals who want to share their passion for cooking, nutrition and food with children and parents. As a team member, you will be championing the guest experience, allowing your knowledge, experience and superb customer service to shine. You must have a positive demeanor with a hustling can-do attitude and well-rounded knowledge about our brand and offerings. You should expect to wear many hats, including: leading in-studio classes, birthday parties and summer camp following the JCK curriculum with thorough understanding of the exclusive recipes, and traveling to schools to teach the JCK curriculum off-site, while ensuring kids (and parents) have the best time.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Instruct and prepare food items according to the recipes with adherence to the quantities, timing, protocols and overall procedures in place
  • Act as an ambassador for the Junior Chefs Kitchen brand to all customers, understand our offerings to describe them with excitement and be able to answer questions about our products and services
  • Maintain aesthetic presentation and superb cleanliness of every part of the studio, not limited to the kitchen
  • Punctual & reliable with ability to travel to nearby schools for our after school program partnerships
  • Safely and effectively use and operate all necessary kitchen tools and equipment (including knives)
  • Complete required Junior Chefs Kitchen training and certification
  • Ability to frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally moving/lifting items up to 50 pounds (think: bags of flour, containers of sugar, butter deliveries) and perform daily tasks largely while standing (at times standing or walking for an entire shift), and often while kneeling, squatting, crawling, and bending over
  • Ability to move safely through all areas of the studio which may include uneven or slick work surfaces
  • Appreciate the concerns, learn and speak with confidence about allergen awareness, handling protocols, procedures, and substitutions, and Junior Chefs Kitchen’s allergen protocols
  • Passion for high-quality food, beverage, nutrition, and education
  • Maintain food safety and quality standards
  • Follows all policies and procedures as well as the conditions of employment including those outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Comfortable working a variety of hours, days, and shifts (including weekends)


Qualifications

  • 2 years experience working with children and/or at-risk adults with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Committed to growth personally and professionally abd experience instructing or teaching others is a plus


Other Considerations

  • Possession of a Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Completion of Certified Allergen Awareness Training and Mandated Reporter Training
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited Culinary School
  • Access to a car for off-site programming as this position requires travel within the city of Chicago.


Rate: $21 / Hourly Rate with potential for salary and benefits after 6 months of continuous employment.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 6 – 12 per week
