Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

Degree - that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: - courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above.

In addition to meeting the above Basic Requirements, applicants must also have the following:

Education:

GL-07: 1 year of graduate-level education OR Superior Academic Achievement.

GL-09: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Graduate education must provide the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR

Experience:

GL-07, GL-09: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience could include:

GL-07:

  • Experience administering group tests and other individual diagnostic instruments.
  • Experience in planning and conducting instructional programs based on assessment data, knowledge of teaching strategies, learning styles, and/or availability of resources.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating instructional programs, which may include such areas as: literacy, leisure and wellness, and rehabilitative behavioral/social skills.

GL-09:

  • Experience administering standardized educational group tests and other individual diagnostic and/or assessment instruments, and analysis of results.
  • Experience in planning, developing and conducting an instructional program based on assessment data, knowledge of teaching strategies, learning styles, and availability of resources.
  • Experience in planning, designing curricula, and coordinating instructional programs, which may include such areas as: Literacy/GED, Adult Continuing Education, English as a Second Language, vocational trades, and/or advance education.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience:

GL-07 and GL-09: Combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience. This experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform the major duties of this position as described above. Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience.

To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

Responsibilities:

Incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of functions requiring professional knowledge in the field of education and training. Duties may encompass various teaching/coordination responsibilities in regard to academic and occupational programs for education services. This includes providing direct classroom instruction, planning and conducting individualized instruction, and coordination of such areas as literacy, English as a second language, vocational/occupational/related trades training, adult continuing education, advanced education, release preparation, parenting/leisure and wellness/life skills programs and others.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
