Plant Controller
Description Summary
$2 billion revenue division within the Automotive, Industrial and Electronics sectors with operations concentrated in The Americas, Europe and Asia. JSS provides an innovative and diversified portfolio of fastening products and fastening solutions supported by a market leading brand range with the goal of improving our customer’s efficiency and productivity.
This position will have the financial controllership responsibility for the Elyria, OH manufacturing location and the associated North America Distribution Centers. The Plant Controller functions as the leading accounting professional in the plant and is responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of results and maintenance of the company’s assets through balance sheet integrity and ensuring a strong control environment. The Plant Controller also serves as the business partner to the Plant Manager focusing largely on providing financial and operational leadership and improvements, including identifying and driving cost reductions.
Responsibilities
- Business Partner & Leadership
o Be the right-hand to the plant operations leadership team providing real time information and support to aid decision making and driving value
o Forward looking team member that takes joint accountability for delivering financial and operational commitments
o Framing financial and operational issues in a complete business case format and positively contributing to the strategic direction in the plant
o Make and offer process and system improvements that will create additional value
o Review opportunities to standardize processes and routines for the Industrial business that run on the respective ERP’s
- Monthly Close and Financial Reporting
o Lead player in the monthly close process by reviewing and recommending journal entries, interpreting and explaining month to date, quarter to date and year to date income statement results versus prior year, budget and forecast
o Support Global Shared Services who provides services to the business in the areas of AP, AR and General Accounting
o Ensure 100% reconciliation of the balance sheet with ownership of account reconciliations for plant operations, mostly pertaining to inventory, inventory reserves, and fixed assets
o Ensure that financial reporting processes are in accordance with US GAAP and Stanley Black & Decker financial policies
o Support performance by providing operations with financial analysis and thorough reporting of plant metrics and KPI’s
o Provide management with weekly, monthly and quarterly financial metrics (KPIs) to assist in driving business results
o Prepare financial reports and presentations to support the local business, the business unit and corporate requirements
- Provides operational financial reporting, financial analysis and manufacturing cost analysis by:
o Preparing and managing actual, forecast, and budget scenarios throughout the course of the year
o Analyzing and interpreting plant performance, evaluating variances and assessing the effects on plant results
o Providing management with the strategic tools and reports to drive business results
o Serving as project manager on cost reduction initiatives, working cross functionally with engineers, procurement, and plant operators to drive cost reductions
- Develop and Monitor Strong Controls in Plant and Safeguard Assets
o Ownership of all aspects of financial management, internal controls, SOX requirements and company requirements for the respective physical locations. The role will be the Audit Leader for the sites referred
o Responsible for monitoring and executing the inventory cycle count program and physical inventories.
o Oversee the monitoring, evaluation and coordination of the disposal of obsolete and excess inventories, including appropriate reserve requirements based on Company Policy
o Analyze WIP, raw materials and other inventory accounts to ensure work orders and variances are reported correctly and lead investigations with the Operation Team into the causes of significant variances
o Support the fixed asset cap-ex requisition process to ensure that requests are made in line with accounting principles and guidelines as well as company policy
o Team responsibility for the accurate accounting of fixed assets including tracking of Construction In-Process, physical tagging of assets once in service, and regular reviews for idle assets based on Company policy
o Responsible for overseeing and coordinating fixed asset inventories
- Standard Costing
o Responsible for ensuring the plants roll standard costs on an annual cost basis and the accuracy of standard costs on a daily basis
o Subject matter expert for development of standard costs based on Company policy. Need to review and communicate cost build-up and changes in costs with finance and non-finance personnel.
Qualifications
- Strong standard cost and cost accounting background in a manufacturing environment
- A person with a strategic outlook driven to make process improvements
- Self-motivated and have a strong attention to detail. Able to translate functional or business needs into financial goals.
- Demonstrated project coordination and problem-solving skills.
- High level of expertise in all MS Office, JDEdwards, Sage Fixed Assets, or Hyperion Financial Management a plus

- Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $130,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
