JOB TITLE: Convenience Store Clerk

DEPARTMENT: Operations

REPORTS TO: Convenience Store Manager, Assistant Manager

SUPERVISES: N/A

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Always provide efficient and courteous service to customers.
  • Assist in food service production, in preparing sandwiches, submarine sandwiches, doughnuts,
  • and other food service items.
  • Follow company food safety program.
  • Scan and ring customer orders according to company policy.
  • Receive and be accountable for all funds taken for each transaction.
  • Keep workstation, convenience store, and all areas clean.
  • Know and follow all state and local laws regarding cigarette/tobacco sales.
  • Know and follow all state and local laws regarding alcohol sales.
  • Know and follow all federal laws regarding food stamps.
  • Know and follow all coupon handling procedures.
  • Follow company check cashing and tendering policies.
  • Follow company policy regarding Lottery and Lotto sales.
  • Follow company policy regarding the sale of money orders.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with stocking and ordering of store products (candy, cigarettes, chips, motor oil, drink
  • Assist with stocking of store (candy, cigarettes, chips, snacks, motor oil, drink coolers, etc.).
  • Assist in authorized store transfers and receiving of product, as directed by the store
  • manager(s).
  • Sweep and mop work area.
  • Cleaning the concrete area around the pumps of the fuel station daily with approved methods.
  • Replace misplaced items to the proper location.
  • Collect trash as needed.
  • Keep paper towels and windshield wiper fluid stocked at pumps.
  • Maintain a clean and supplied public restroom area.
  • Keep pumps clean.
  • Brew coffee as needed throughout the day.
  • Clean food service equipment as needed and every night (coffee urns, fountain drink machines,
  • milkshake machines).
  • Stock food service supplies and store supplies as needed (fountain drink cups, straws, coffee cups).
  • Assist in keeping food service area sanitize and stocked.
  • Accountable for security of all safe combinations, keys, and numbers always entrusted to you.
  • Perform Computer Room duties, as needed, including app reporting and balancing of register
  • tills.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENT:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with customers, supervision,
  • associates, co-workers, and affiliate vendors.
  • Ability to communicate via telephone, facsimile, and email.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS/HAZARDS:

  • Counters and floor areas should be free and clean of hazards.
  • Store associates need to use proper scanning techniques to alleviate hand and wrist disorders.
  • All cleaning supplies should be labeled and kept in designated areas.
  • Know location and operating procedures for fire extinguishers.
  • Know and follow correct lifting procedures.
  • Associates should wear proper footwear for their working environment.
  • Know location and operating procedures for the emergency shut-off valve for the gas tanks.
  • Utilizing and enforcing proper operating procedures, cleaning instructions, use of safety gloves,
  • etc.

WORK LOCATIONS:

  • Individual K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc. Convenience Store in assigned location.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • The payroll week runs from Saturday until Friday
  • Working hours correspond to the needs of the store.

  • product ingredient labels, and product date codes

  • Ability to see under normal retail store lighting and office environment

  • Must possess ability to handle stressful situations of a fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Requires the ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions
  • Perform routine tasks and have constant contact/interaction with many people daily
  • Must be able to make immediate decisions using sound judgment at all times
  • Position requires the use of math skills, basic record keeping, computer skills, money-counting
  • skills, and the ability to interpret data

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Oversee and monitor department physical inventory counts according to company guidelines
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of strict confidentiality
  • Must meet productivity standards

DECISION DISCRETION:

  • Make store-level decisions based on sound judgment and situation, asking for clarification from
  • direct supervisor when necessary
  • Must be able to read case labels and select merchandise from correct slot to meet productivity
  • and service standards.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Retail experience in a similar position or proficiency in a similar task
  • Exceptional customer service skills & the ability to help maintain a customer focused culture
  • Ability to use a cash register (point of sale or POS system), computer, telephone, and other
  • equipment as needed
  • Willingness to learn all areas of the store and help train others
  • Skilled at providing prompt, friendly, and attentive customer service
  • Ability to work as part of a team and interact with customers of various socioeconomic levels,
  • persons in differing company roles, vendors, guests, and corporate representatives.
  • A continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance is required.
  • Must be able to work an assigned schedule as directed by the manager, which could include 
  • nights, days, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions, perform routine and
  • repetitive tasks and have constant contact/interaction with various levels of individuals daily
  • Ability to attend on-site work during normal business hours, in the typical work week, as well as
  • extra time as needed to fulfill job duties
