The inventory specialist position is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking to build a career in retail management and be a part of a collaborative and entrepreneurial minded team. Some inventory management experience and/or retail procurement experience is required.

The inventory Specialist is a key role in the day-to-day operations of the stores by supporting the Front team and Training Team in product procurement-related tasks, vendor management, and communications, and inventory management duties. The ideal candidate should be detail oriented, confident and an excellent communicator. The position will directly contribute to the company purchasing department mission of getting the right material to the right place at the right time for the right price. In this pivotal position, this candidate will work with suppliers, employees and customers alike and must be able to switch gears effectively and efficiently.

This job is ideal for someone who is data-driven, thrives on information collection and analysis and a talent for making strategic decisions based on numbers. An upbeat attitude and a sense of humor is also a huge plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Master the product procurement process including requests for proposals, purchase order entry and follow up.
  • Master the physical aspects of product intake and distribution to stores
  • Accurately create SKU’s and inventory reports
  • Support operations in the planning of seasonal inventory and communicate schedule to store managers
  • Obtain feedback from stores to improve product selections
  • Assist and improve data integrity protocols and execution
  • Assist with product transfer and sale price event entry and maintenance
  • Assist in the identification of industry trends and provide merchandising recommendations
  • Assist in monitoring supplier performance to ensure purchases are cost-effective and suppliers provided expected service and value
  • Manage vendor coop funds and submissions
  • Maintain awareness of all product information, promotions and sale items

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong desire to acquire knowledge of products, procedures and industry information
  • Ability to proactively problem solve and make swift and educated decisions
  • 2 years’ experience in purchasing field and/or retail experience, preferably in farm, pet field
  • Intermediate to advanced computer and technological skills, particularly with Excel and Kennel Connection
  • Aptitude for inventory management through POS reports, spreadsheet management, product/industry knowledge, trend analysis
  • Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, peers
  • Above average mathematical skills
  • Willingness to participate in community events and serve on various committees
  • Great work ethic; ability to work in a team environment, and willingness to get involved with a hands-on approach
  • Solid product knowledge on one or more areas: pet food and supplies
  • Superior time management and organizational skills with the ability to self-prioritize based on needs of company and availability of resources
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise generally weighing between 0-25 pounds

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour
