Job Summary:
In association with the Administrator of the Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), provides leadership for patient care and is responsible for all nursing and other designated patient care functions/services within the three (3) ASCs (Interstate ASC, Skyline ASC, and Sunnybrook ASC) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Under the direction of the Administrator, provides direction, leadership, planning, organization and general management for all aspects of patient care ensuring integration of services and compliance with long range objectives and strategies, including the provision of excellent quality services, nursing vision, and responsible fiscal management. As a member of the ASC Surgical Services Leadership team and of the Northwest regional nursing management teams, works collaboratively with other senior leaders to achieve the highest quality healthcare in a clinically and fiscally accountable manner. Develops strong collaborative leadership relationships with Northwest Permanente (NWP) Medical Group. The DON may delegate specific areas of oversight for the professional practice of nursing and the provision of nursing care in all licensed or surveyable areas of the Ambulatory Surgery Centers. Oversight is defined as having responsibility for regulatory, quality, service, resources, nursing staff competency and evaluation of the overall delivery of nursing care. Sets standards and drives operational integration of programs by ensuring alignment of communication to nursing. In the absence of the Administrator of the Ambulatory Surgery Centers, acts as the designee.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assumes 24-hour responsibility and accountability for high quality, cost effective, age-appropriate patient care, activities, quality improvement, budget and financial management, proactively works with managers for clinical staffing plans including staff recruitment/retention and development.
- Provides leadership and direction in accordance with Organizational and Regional ASC goals and vision.
- Working closely with Northwest Permanente, KPNW leadership, Kaiser Program Office and Labor partners, builds effective partnerships and promotes collaborative relationships that optimize organization outcomes and success.
- Assists managers in preparation of department operating and capital budgets based upon criteria supported by volume and expense projections, cost benefit analysis, operating processes and other relevant information.
- Establishes departmental policies and procedures consistent with community and national guidelines while monitoring levels of risk in the organization.
- Assures regulatory compliance.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum ten (10) years of RN clinical experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a management position supervising more than 20 people.
- Minimum two (2) years of budget development experience.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in nursing.
License, Certification, Registration
- Current Oregon RN license required upon hire/transfer.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers required upon hire/transfer.
Additional Requirements:
- Experience and knowledge of financial management including budgeting, forecasting, strategic fiscal planning and use of decision support systems to guide operating decisions.
- Knowledge of leadership skills, organizational skills and the nursing process.
- Knowledge of rules/regulations established by pertinent governmental and regulatory agencies.
- Has a track record of developing/mentoring others and creating an environment for learning and growth. Is able to delegate appropriately and hold others accountable.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
- Must be oriented to support the role of physicians in a complementary and construction fashion and be able to maintain strong relationships with the medical staff based upon mutual trust and respect.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Able to articulate a vision and to explain ideas for all levels of audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous director experience in a similar role or in an acute care setting.
- Significant experience leading surgical services operations with demonstrated success.
- Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or health care related field
- Certification in specialization.
