What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lift Technician position at Kaiser Permanente?
The Lift Technician provides patient handling assistance to support and function as part of the hospital's nursing/patient care services team. The Lift Technician functions collaboratively on the unit/department with guidance of a RN/Technician responsible for the care of the patient where the assistance is needed. Lift Technicians are trained to work in pairs as a Lift Team. This position reports to a [Dept. Manager/Designee]. The Lift Technician provides assistance in the tasks of repositioning and transferring patients collaboratively with the nursing/patient care services staff. The Lift Technician is also trained to utilize patient care handling equipment that assists in the lifting and transferring of patients in accordance w/ manufacturer's and hospitals' guidelines to minimize injury risks.
Essential Functions:
- Upholds KP's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws
- Functions as a member of the Lift Team (consisting of two (2) trained technicians who work together) to provide assistance to the nursing/patient care services staff in the safe lifting and transferring of patients that have been identified as appropriate for this service
- Utilizes proper body mechanics, lifting techniques, and observes hospital protocol
- Utilizes patient handling equipment, transfer devices, and protective equipment in compliance w/ hospital policies, vendor specifications, and patient handling protocols
- Works cooperatively as part of the nursing/patient care services team and adheres to department and hospital policies and procedures
- Demonstrates appropriate judgment in all aspects of patient care
- Maintains patient and employee safety as a basic premise of all tasks performed
- Must have the ability to recognize the needs & concerns of members, co-workers and physicians while maintaining positive working relationships

Basic Qualifications:
• Prior experience in rehabilitation service or healthcare setting is preferred
• Completion of course work in the basic sciences or related programs such as physical education, nursing or physical therapy, preferred
• Valid BLS card (Incumbent will be given on the job training and must receive BLS certification within 30 days). Must maintain current BLS certification once obtained
• Knowledge of basic body mechanics is required
• Knowledge of related patient lifting or transport is required
• Must be able to lift, push, pull and transport patients on a daily basis
• Job requires ability to lift as part of a team, utilizing appropriate equipment for assistance
• Job also requires frequent bending, stooping, lifting, stretching and standing for extended periods of time
• Must successfully complete capacity screening prior to first day of employment
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of human anatomy, basic medical terminology, and rehabilitation principles, preferred.
