The Kalamazoo Humane Society is looking for a full-time veterinary assistant that is compassionate about helping animals and people, motivated to make a difference in the community, and committed to quality patient care for all. VETERINARY SUPPORT
- Collaborate with, and support, Veterinarians, Licensed Veterinary Technicians, and veterinary support staff in the care of patients.
- Willing to participate in community outreach with seniors and unhoused populations
- Assist with animal handling and restraint, veterinary nursing care, anesthesia, patient monitoring and recovery, patient imaging, and preparation and administration of pharmaceuticals as requested and appropriate for level of training and experience.
- Clean and disinfect clinic and animal housing areas and equipment according to KHS protocols.
- Operate laboratory diagnostic equipment (e.g., microscope, blood testing machines) as requested and appropriate for the level of training and experience.
- Admit and discharge spay/neuter patients
- Provide a high standard of patient and client care with respect for the limited resources of a charity organization.
- Provide input as requested for development and implementation of clinic protocols and staff training.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education/experience
- High quality references from previous employers, teachers, or supervisors
- Ability to provide excellent customer service, working cooperatively and patiently with animals and clients.
- Excellent team player, with the ability to lead by example and work cooperatively as part of the KHS team.
- Willingness and aptitude to learn quickly, and to respond professionally to constructive criticism. Candidate must be highly motivated and take initiative as appropriate.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to learn new software efficiently
- No history of animal abuse or neglect or history of violence against other people.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- One (1) to two (2) years’ experience working in a veterinary clinic, veterinary hospital, and/or animal shelter or animal control facility
- Certification as a Veterinary Assistant

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
