Overview
Works under the general direction of the Sr. Manager, Human Resources with minimum direction on a wide variety of technical assignments within the environmental, health and safety (EH&S) disciplines. Is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of EH&S initiatives and regulations and property protection. Interacts effectively with environmental and health & safety agencies, customers, suppliers, site employees, corporate management as well as site management. Responsible for EH&S duties at Kaman Composites Structures Sites. Mechanical aptitude required in order to supports hands on facilities related tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides safety and environmental audits of new and existing equipment and processes; prepares recommendations and implement, as authorized.
Ensures workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standard provisions.
Responsible for managing the facility’s Hazardous Waste Program according to the guidelines and responsibilities outlined in the facility’s waste Management Program.
Maintains, updates and ensures Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are up-to-date and employees have the ability to access those needed for their work area.
Performs workplace assessments, identifies hazardous conditions and takes corrective actions.
Launches and maintains safety-training initiatives to comply with OSHA and environmental requirements.
Maintains OSHA logs; compiles data for EH&S metrics, and ensure annual postings.
Interprets applicable federal and state laws, regulations and orders as they pertain to all environmental and safety issues in the assigned facility.
Implements policies and procedures that ensure compliance to appropriate laws, statutes or regulations.
Coordinates environmental permit administration as required for new processes and equipment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related technical field or equivalent certification – such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or Licensed Environmental Professional (LEP), preferred.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in EH&S in a manufacturing environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong command of computer skills is required:
All Microsoft Office software used by the company
Excellent customer and employee relations skills with both internal and external customers.
Experience with the handling of confidential information and data.
