Overview

 

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Senior EH&S Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of EH&S and facilities initiatives, in accordance with federal/state regulations, company policy & procedures. The successful candidate will interact effectively with environmental, health & safety agencies, customers, suppliers, division employees, corporate as well as division management.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and implement EHS policies and procedures that ensure compliance to federal/state laws, statutes or regulations. Interpret applicable federal and state laws, regulations and orders as they pertain to all environmental and safety issues.
  • Develop and maintain department budget for EH&S compliance, adhering to established guidelines.
  • Develop and execute a strategic Preventative Maintenance plan for the business
  • Supervise activities of company building and equipment maintenance crew. Oversee the activities of outside contractors working on company premises to ensure compliance with specifications, schedule and safety practices. 
  • Monitor the use and condition of company tools, equipment and vehicles taking appropriate action to ensure proper operation, maintenance and repair. Maintain equipment in accordance with departmental policies and procedures that include government property (in compliance with FAR and DFAR).
  • Maintain an Environmental Management System. Create and maintain environmental waste profiles. Coordinate environmental permit administration as required for new processes and equipment. Provide innovative solutions to continually reduce air, water and waste reportables. Direct external environmental and other consultant services needed for technical support, as needed.
  • Ensure necessary and timely environmental and safety recordkeeping, and submit report to federal/local authorities and Kaman corporate, as required. Provide safety and environmental audits of new and existing equipment and processes; prepare recommendations and implement, as authorized.   
  • Plan and implement safety training programs for managers and employees in work site safety practices, correct handling techniques for chemicals, equipment and other materials, in compliance with OSHA and environmental requirements. Perform workplace assessments, identify hazardous conditions and take corrective actions. Ensure workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standard provisions.  Maintain, update and ensure Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are up-to-date and employees have the ability to access those needed for their work area.
  • Lead Safety Program to reduce OSHA recordables and workers compensation claims. Manage Workers Compensation claims; track and evaluate worker injuries; interface with HR, Corporate, employees and Travelers. Ensure full and immediate visibility to Vice President, Human Resources, VP of Finance and President when, where and how any incidents/accidents regarding EHS occurred.
  • Participate and respond to internal/external inspections and audits by regulatory agencies and Kaman corporate EH&S.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with internal/external customers to facilitate problem identification/resolution. Act as liaison between facilities and Kaman corporate EH&S and Risk Management.   Work with Risk Management and insurance carriers to eliminate any EH&S issues that may lead to increased coverage costs.
  • Publish management updates and metrics designed to initiate management awareness and participation. Maintain OSHA logs; ensure annual postings.  Manage personnel assigned, including evaluating performance, recommending salary increase, promotion, hires and termination in accordance with company policy, state/federal laws.
  • Participate in and support the communication of company philosophy and information throughout the division.   Perform special projects, as assigned.  Maintain working knowledge of new developments in the industry and government regulations.  

Qualifications

 

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited institution with a focus in Environmental, Health & Safety preferred.

 

Required Experience:

  • Previous environmental, health & safety experience required.
  • Significant project management experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to be able to build relationships and communicate effectively with both executive teams and the shop floor a must

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Strong customer service skills managing multiple clients in a high volume and fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to create and refine a shared vision across key stakeholders through developing relationships and clear timely communication.
  • Demonstrated lean implementations and cost reduction accomplishments strongly desired
