IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principal or Designee

EVALUATION PROCEDURES: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement

Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or

university and be properly certified to meet Illinois Teaching License Standards.

A Professional Educator License (PEL) with elementary endorsements required,

LBS1 Or LBS2 Endorsements Required And ESL Endorsement Preferred.

  • Knowledge of Special Education programming, laws, procedures, and paperwork.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Displays quality work through accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and data based decision-making.
  • Effective written, verbal and technology based communication skills.
  • Works effectively and productively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work with a linguistically and culturally diverse public.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of child growth and development,

effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and

diagnosis, and research related to learning.

Job Description / Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in the subject area utilizing the common core/content area

standards, social emotional standards, curricula and materials adopted by the

Board of Education.

  • Designs the individualized education plan (IEP) for areas in which an adverse

effect has been identified based on supporting documentation for each assigned

student which education program is consistent with the total educational

philosophy of the district, common core and state and federal law.

  • Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences appropriate to their skill

levels and developmental needs and adapt curriculum as needed based on the

identified needs of the students.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of learners in individual or small group

instruction, scheduling to reflect the least restrictive environment.

  • Monitor and oversee services provided by teacher assistants and/or other support

personnel assigned to classroom and/or student in classroom.

  • Develop and submit lesson plans, as required.
  • Collaborate with general education instructors and related services to maintain

accurate, complete and correct general education and special education records as

required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.

  • Act as case manager for all assigned students.
  • Administer and/or monitor state, district and local assessments, as required.
  • Submit reports to the appropriate person(s), as required.
  • Complete and submit paperwork and reports in a timely fashion to ensure

compliance to all district, local, state and federal guidelines to the IEP database.

  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism with the ability to maintain

confidentiality and personal flexibility in all areas.

  • Communicate with parents, administrators and all other applicable school

personnel the student’s academic, social/emotional progress and accommodations.

  • Participate in program development, and in the selection of materials and

equipment to support and supplement instruction.

  • Direct and supervise students, implement OLWEUS/PBIS and maintain and

document discipline both in and out of the classroom during the assigned

workday.

  • Develop students’ critical analysis skills through group discussions using a variety

of mass media and literature.

  • Use subject matter knowledge, teaching and learning, best practices and

technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and

innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.

  • Exhibit legal and ethical behavior in professional practice; follow and implement

all district rules, regulations, practices and policies.

  • Continuously improve professional practices, model lifelong learning, and exhibit

leadership in the school and professional community.

  • Works cooperatively with all staff to deliver educational services relating to the

instruction of children.

  • Encourage students to think independently and express original and creative ideas.
  • Participate in / attend building and district meetings, as required and including

PLC team meetings.

  • Participates in school based problem solving team, in school staffing team, and in

the screening processes of special needs students.

  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities

provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.

  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment,

materials and facilities. Provides appropriate safety instruction.

  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities related to the department as may be

requested by the Student Services/Special Education Administrative Team,

Principal or designee.
