The Learning Services staff in Kansas Athletics Student Athlete Support Services is currently hiring tutors for the Spring 2024 semester.
Spring 2024 Tutors needed for the following courses: Applied English courses for English language learners • General humanities • Accounting • Biology • Business-related courses (DSCI, IST, MKTG, MGMT, SCM) • Chemistry • Communications • Economics • Finance • French • Geology • Geography • HSES • Mathematics • Physics • Psychology • Sociology • Spanish
Duties and Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:
- Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics, and NCAA policies and procedures;
- Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules, and procedures;
- Foster cooperative working relationships with fellow staff members within the Department;
- Support the athletics department goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values;
- Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and in working with other staff members;
- Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road.

Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Tutor Position:
- Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing what will be accomplished during each session. This includes text review and strategy instruction;
- Begin all sessions punctually, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the student's needs;
- Attend all scheduled sessions. The Tutor Coordinators must be notified 24 hours in advance prior to any canceled sessions;
- Attend and participate in discussions and follow-up meetings for tutors as scheduled by the Learning Services Staff;
- Communicate student progress by completing academic update tutor reports on a weekly basis following each session;
- Participate as a member of the staff "Learning Community" by working to solve student problems and developing improved tutoring techniques;
- Serve as an "expert learner" model for student-athletes;
- Teach learning strategies to student-athletes;
- Maintain absolute confidentiality with regard to academic progress and/or personal information concerning student-athletes.
Required Qualifications for the Tutor Position:
- Applicants must have a 3.5 G.P.A or higher in the subject(s) tutored (or have earned an A/B in the specific course tutored);
- Available to work a minimum of ten hours each week;
- maximum of 20 for international students;
- maximum of 29 hours for students and non-students;
- Non-English speaking applicants must have taken and passed the English proficiency examination.
Preferred Qualifications for both positions:
- Experience in tutoring and/or teaching;
- Available to work a varied schedule during the week - weekday mornings and/or evenings are preferred, including Sundays.
- Working knowledge of Canvas, Zoom, and Google drive
