JOB SUMMARY
Using a trauma informed approach, the safety and security coordinator will manage the organization’s safety, security and emergency preparedness programs. Ensuring a positive experience for library customers by balancing security authority with keeping the Library a friendly place to visit for everybody. Coordinates the safety and security programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment. Prepares and ensures presentation of safety and security related training to all library staff, including emergency preparedness and response.

This is a full-time exempt position. Starting salary is $60,000 per year plus excellent benefits, negotiable and commensurate with experience. This position may be classified as a Manager or a Senior Manager depending on the qualifications of the selected individual. Position open until filled.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Collaborates with senior leadership, Community Resources, HREE and public services to develop, prepare and implement public safety procedures and policies.
· Recommends policies, practices, and services for daily operation and special events which maximize a safe and secure environment for people and library property.
· Proactively collaborates with both Library staff and outside agencies, such as social workers, mental health professionals, and law enforcement and emergency responders, to anticipate, prevent, and respond to serious or emergency situations.
· Evaluates the effectiveness of the Library’s safety, security, and emergence preparedness programs.
· Reviews, prepares, and implements the Library’s safety and security training programs and coordinates. Conducting training for new hires and ongoing training for all staff. Liaisons with contract security to assure training for guards and ambassadors.
· Collaborates with public services directors to monitor incident reports. Issues and manages suspensions of individuals as needed based on the Library's policy on the enforcement of Library use rules and notice of suspension. Works with Library staff to prepare and review written incident reports and completing necessary incident follow-up. Notifies supervisors and/or Human Resources and Employee Experience (HREE) when additional support to affected employees may be beneficial.

· Collaborates with Plant Operations, Special Events and Public Affairs to coordinate safety and security needs for special events.

· Ability to speak and understand English. Additional consideration may be given to individuals that are fluent in any additional languages spoken in the Kansas City area including Somali, Swahili, Spanish, Arabic, French, Dari, Pashto, and Vietnamese.
· Minimum qualifications include Bachelor or advanced degrees in a field such as Social Welfare, Library Science, or Law Enforcement plus extensive related experience in a comparable setting. This requirement may also be met by an equivalent combination of education, work experience, and life experience.
