Description
This leadership position directs overall railroad operating functions for an assigned territory. It provides direction and leadership to ensure efficient, safe and effective transportation services. Areas of responsibility may include operations, budget, maintenance, compliance, human resources and safety.
Accountabilities
- Provides oversight for management of transportation operations for assigned territory, including maintenance, safety, FRA regulations, process improvement, and labor relations needs.
- Manages division budget responsibility and accountability.
- Ensures availability of resources to perform day-today operations, maintenance and training.
- Oversees management of division staff to include management and union employees.
- Leads safety program in his/her territory.
- Top-level first responder with respect to derailments.
- Enforces policies and procedures in his/her territory; ensures compliance with federal and state human resources legislation in the territory.
- Teams cross-functionally with Marketing, Mechanical, Engineering, HR, etc.
- Coordinates with general chairman and local chairman.
- Adheres to KCS principles of leadership.
- Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values, and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study
- Minimum twelve (12) years of relevant professional experience, including leading and managing complex projects or programs with outcome focused deliverables, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum five (5) years of managerial experience
Preferred
- 5 years experience in transportation, safety and training preferred.
Working Conditions
- On-call responsibilities are an essential function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support operations of mission critical systems and/or processes 24 hours per day/7 days per week. On-call assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.
- Business travel is an essential requirement of this job. Employees must be able and willing to travel away from their primary work location up to 50% of the time.
