What are the responsibilities and job description for the Referral Specialist position at Katahdin Valley Health Center?
POSITION SUMMARY
The role of the Referral Specialist is to provide administrative support to the medical staff, coordinate referrals ordered by a KVHC provider, facilitate all communication related to referrals including prior authorization, patient education with reference to referring specialist, as well as schedule referral-follow up appointments and to utilize their organizational skills to assist with facilitating patient care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Facilitate incoming referral telephone calls.
2. Process all referral requests within EHR.
3. Schedule necessary appointments with specialist or testing sites.
4. Send necessary records or documents to specialist, testing site and insurance company.
5. Schedule referral follow-up appointments for patients.
6. Provide patient education on referral tests and procedures.
7. Notify patients of all appointments and distribute necessary documents/forms.
8. Reports/Results follow up.
9. All other duties as assigned by the Health Records Coordinator.
10. Participates in the Care Team as outlined in Team Approach to Care Protocol.

Experience:
- Insurance verification: 1 year (Preferred)
