POSITION TITLE: Scientist I

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Perform contract development services, including formulation, analytical development programs for monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins and peptides. Apply biophysical, biochemical and biopharmaceutical principles and techniques to develop protein formulations (liquid or lyophilized). Experience with bio-analytical techniques such as HPLC, SDS- CGE, IEF, Fluorescence, biophysical characterization techniques on proteins, and other techniques applicable to monitor physical and chemical stability of the proteins. Produce high quality documentation suitable for publication and regulatory requirements. Managing cost and time constraints in meeting committed targets and schedules. Act as spokesperson on development programs and interact positively and productively with clients. Advise management on program status. Responsible for training of lower level associates. Must report to Durham, NC office, but remote work available one day per week.

REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree in Bioprocess Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, or related field, and three (3) years of experience as a Scientist, Quality Control Chemist/Scientist, or related role. Employer will also accept Bachelor's degree in Bioprocess Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, or related field, and five (5) years of experience as a Scientist, Quality Control Chemist/Scientist, or related role. Three (3) years of experience with: Analytical software, including Empower 3, SoftMax, and Compass; Following cGMP documentation practices; Working with formulas, scientific equations, and graphs; Experience using lab equipment, including Agilent HPLCs with specialized detectors (MWD, DAD, ELSD, CAD, MALS, or RI), Waters UPLCs with specialized detectors (DAD or ELSD), SpectraMax plate readers (absorbance and fluorescence), Beckman Coulter PA800 , and icIEF (Protein Simple iCE3 and MauriCE); Clearly presenting data and findings to managers, clients, customers, and the public; Scientific writing, including standard operating procedures, method development reports, method qualification protocols, and method qualification reports; Labeling, handling, and storing chemicals; and Troubleshooting technical challenges such as a plate-based assay which produces no discernible signal or other comparable technical issue.
