Title:
Lead Image ScientistThe Lead Image Scientist provides expertise in imagery science, imagery analysis, and photogrammetry to enable the detailed technical analysis of GEOINT product quality concerns. This position requires a highly experienced individual who can provide oversight and continuity of knowledge to the team and independent assessment tasks. This role will also support algorithm development and validation related to imagery science tasks.
Responsibilities:
Leverage extensive experience, knowledge and skills within image science principles to provide expert-level consultation, problem solving, and verification for all GEOINT quality assessments, studies, and standards.
Provide detailed recommendations and risk assessments to Government and technical leadership.
Design, develop, evaluate and verify the implementation of complex image processing software products, algorithms, and workflows.
Leverage experience to develop and guide junior image scientists in the development of criteria for testing algorithm and system’s cognitive performance objectively from an end-user perspective, as well as performing evaluation and testing on simulated and operational data.
Provide expert/senior imagery scientist support through accomplishment of technical reviews, consultations, oversight of proposed and executed GEOINT product quality assessments and studies, and strategic level product quality direction.
Provide image processing algorithm validation and verification in support of GEOINT product quality assessments or ad hoc customer requests.
Provide imagery science services and analysis in support of GEOINT product quality assessments for the full range of traditional and non-traditional imaging systems, products, and data formats; sensor fidelity assessment, pixel registration assessment, Tonal Transfer Curve assessments, Relative Edge Response assessment, MTF and Signal to Noise Ratio assessment, and other product quality parameters.
Support algorithm development in support of imagery science tasks and assessment of various product quality parameters.
Provide expert/senior photogrammetrist services and engineering in support of the full range of traditional and non-traditional imaging systems and products; assessment of product geolocation accuracy using verified geolocation of a known features, verifying mensuration accuracy through measurement of known objects, calculating ground sample distance, and other photogrammetric analyses as directed.
Provide senior imagery analyst support through technical review, consultation, and oversight of proposed and executed product quality assessments and studies, and strategic level product quality direction.
Provide expert/senior imagery analyst services in support of GEOINT product quality assessment planning, execution, and results analysis; imagery review, artifact analysis, NIIRS evaluations (absolute NIIRS, delta NIIRS, and ENS NIIRS evaluations), display performance assessments, etc.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
A minimum of 20 years of experience and a Bachelor of Science degree in image science, remote sensing, earth science, physical science, engineering, or similar engineering/science field.
A MS degree may count for up to 2 years of experience, and a relevant PhD may count for up to 6 years of experience.
Demonstrate in-depth understanding of digital imaging systems principles and practices
Experience supporting the development, testing, and analysis of image collection systems
Proven track record applying engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques to solve complex problems associated with image product formation from raw sensor and associated metadata
Experience or working knowledge with advanced photogrammetric techniques and principles
Experience performing image system simulations to produce realistic test data to support system validation and testing
Experience developing, assessing, and implementing Image Quality Equations
Experience building image processing algorithms
Experience programming in Matlab and/or Python, C , or other equivalent programming languages
Security Clearance Requirements: Active TS/SCI (w/ poly preferred)
