What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Chemical Engineer position at KBR?
Title:
Process Chemical Engineer
KBR is seeking an experienced Process Chemical Engineer that can work with the engineering team to design a pilot plant to utilize Struvite, a phosphate mineral, to remove ammonia (NH3) from ammonia-laden water (from various sources (farms, municipal, & industrial wastewater plants.) Willing to consider part time or remote work.
This ammonia removal process is derived from a prior NASA patent US10676374B1 intended for use on the International Space Station, and similar spacecraft, using consumable Struvite in separate reactors in a multi-pass or batch mode of operation. The current derived ammonia removal process instead uses regenerated Struvite in a single reactor, in a single-pass, or continuous mode, of operation. This new process requires regenerating mixed media consisting of orthorhombic crystal or platy Magnesium Ammonium Phosphate (MAP) (i.e., Struvite) and Magnesium Phosphate (MP) to mostly Magnesium Phosphate (MP) by first heating the combined media in a regeneration cycle, followed by treating influent wastewater for ammonia removal, thereby converting the MP to mostly MAP. The process then regenerates MAP to MP, simultaneously releasing gaseous ammonia and water vapor during each repeated regeneration cycle. This two-step process continuously repeats, thereby comprising a highly selective ammonia removal/recovery cycle.
This is a focused and ambitious project that offers the opportunity to clean the environment and recover ammonia simultaneously for production of fertilizers and for other chemical compounds containing ammonia. By joining our team, you will be creating an innovative process to remove ammonia from wastewater.
