Duties, Responsibilities & Other

KCI is looking for bright and highly motivated college students (rising juniors, rising seniors or rising graduate students) to support and learn from our talented and diverse team of engineers, planners, scientists, and construction managers. The intern will work under the supervision of a technical manager within KCI’s MEP practice to gain exposure to real world projects and daily work tasks. Summer interns will work a 40-hour week, with at least 10 weeks of work required during the period from mid-May to the end of August. Intern will be assigned a dedicated supervisor in the Mechanicsburg office.

 

Depending on the selected candidates’ career field, the duties may include:

  • Enrolled in a college Engineering program.
  • Assist in the development of plans, quantities and cost estimates .
  • Conduct data analysis and reporting.
  • Complete field surveys.
  • Conduct entry level engineering, design or drafting.
  • Prepare engineering studies and coordinate design plans with other design disciplines.
  • Apply quality control procedures in alignment with ISO. 
  • Provide on-time delivery of project expectations with favorable feedback.
  • Perform administrative or office management duties.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a college Engineering program.
  • MicroStation or AutoCAD skills desired but not required.
  • No experience required.
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Performance Expectations

  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(85% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Assist with preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
  • Compare field data to base plan
  • Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
  • Review and approve shop drawings
