Overview

KCI Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Service Line Leader to lead our South Region Professional Services Surveying & Mapping team.

This person will be responsible for overseeing the Surveying & Mapping Service Line in the southeastern US, with primary responsibilities including strategic planning, business development, and financial / operational management.

The Surveying & Mapping Service Line provides services within both public and private sectors including traditional land surveying (ALTA, boundary, topographic, construction staking, etc.

advanced survey technology (mobile, terrestrial and UAV scanning), and full service Subsurface Utility Engineering and utility coordination services.

The position reports directly to the Region Executive for Professional Services in the South Region and serves on the Region’s executive team.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

  • Evaluate market conditions and develop annual business plans to grow surveying and mapping services and revenue throughout the South Region.
  • Develop an annual budget to support the Strategic and Business Plans, revenue / profitability targets and achieve operations excellence.

The budget should be based on established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that serve as the foundation for operational targets.

  • Responsible for overseeing the monthly and year-end profit and loss statements for the Service Line including reviewing project and financial reports, approving general and administrative expenses, and recommending capital purchases, among other duties.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing strategies to drive the growth of the organization and ensure the success of the team.

This individual will provide leadership and mentorship to the team, support their professional growth, and help them achieve their growth goals.

  • Recruit and develop qualified professionals to support and grow the team at multiple levels (technical staff, management and business leaders).
  • Provide direction, mentoring, and leadership to the entire team. This includes regularly visiting with leadership, employees, and projects to ensure the successful execution of company initiatives related to growth, strategy, project management, and employee matters.
  • Collaborate with other Service Line Leaders including Transportation, Construction Management, Water & Environment, Site / Civil and Facilities to ensure alignment and maximize growth opportunities across the Professional Services team.

This includes regular communication to support existing multi-discipline projects and to cooperatively develop new clients and expand the project portfolio.

  • Encourage and facilitate cross-functional collaboration to achieve team goals, including technical training for employees, resource sharing and management.
  • Responsible for overseeing major proposal efforts, including the management of scope, schedule, quality and fee.
  • Ensure that company culture, policies, and procedures are consistently implemented throughout the Service Line.
  • Maintain adherence with KCI’s Quality Management Plan and Safety Program.

Position requirements :

  • 15 years’ experience leading an engineering or surveying and mapping organization. Experience with surveying and subsurface utilities engineering preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (surveying, engineering, or similar) or equivalent experience is required; advanced degree and professional licensure / certification is preferred.
  • Proven track record of success in a similar role, strong leadership and management skills, and excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to independently apply fundamental engineering, environmental, land planning, and survey concepts.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders and ability to contribute to business development efforts.
  • The ideal candidate for this job should be based in a KCI Tier 1 office within the South Region. The Tier 1 Office locations include but are not limited to Raleigh, Charlotte, Rock Hill, Nashville, Atlanta, Tampa, Ft Lauderdale, or Miami.

Periodic travel throughout the South is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, planning or construction management. Master’s or Ph.D. preferred. MBA preferred.
  • Professional license or certification within the field of expertise preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years experience required with at least 10 years of leadership and supervisory experience
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Performance Expectations

  • Develop material for KCI's Project Management Training Academy and / or teach training sessions
  • Prepare and deliver timely annual employee performance appraisals for assigned staff
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Meet monthly or more frequently as necessary with the Discipline Managers and President to review financial performance, business development activities, and staffing
  • Oversee quality, engineering, and customer relations
  • Provide market trends and vision to strategic planning sessions
  • Meet monthly with Operations Manager and Regional / Practice Leaders to review discipline financials
  • Meet monthly with the President, Operations Manager, and CFO to review WIP / AR
  • Prepare and deliver monthly proposal results
  • Work with the CFO to develop annual budget between September 1 and November 15
  • Chair at least one technical society committee
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure discipline achieves required ISO compliance requirements
  • Hire and manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as required
  • Identify and recommend process or equipment / software changes and improvements and recommend potential capital expenditures
  • Meet annual Performance Agreements targets
  • Complete other duties as required / assigned
  • Participate and contribute to annual leadership meeting(includes PLEP training)
  • Participate in and contribute to three regional office forums per year
  • Present discipline status reports at monthly town hall meetings
  • Represent KCI in one technical society and one community organization
  • Review annual Employee Satisfaction Survey and implement required corrective actions
  • Conduct annual market research between June 1 and August 31
  • Develop annual business development plan to achieve Oracle sales target and submit by January 1
  • Meet quarterly with marketing coordinators
  • Approve unbilled work authorizations and forward to the President
  • Chart and communicate discipline performance results
  • Create and implement annual performance agreements for Operations Manager and Regional / Practice Leaders within your discipline by January 1
  • Ensure effective use of facilities, equipment and personnel
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Work with safety officer to ensure adherence to the KCI safety plan. Ensure compliance KCI with all Federal, state, and local safety rules and regulations
  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
