Summary:
The Research and Development Chemist is responsible the laboratory test batching and color-matching (e.g. fragrance extensions current bases/product forms, raw material vendor qualifications) and related interactions with respect to project progress, stability and scale-up projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Executes test batches and color-matching work in the lab; documents all testing activities and associated observations according to established standards.
Prepares bulk specifications, bulk Bills of Material and quantitative formula documents.
Attends technical meetings and conference calls with customers, suppliers or within KDC as needed; participates in on-site color matching exercises with client.
Initiates stability testing for new and modified formulations according to established standards.
Provides internal reference standards to the QC Laboratory for new products.
Participates in the general upkeep of the R&D laboratory (e.g. maintaining adequate supplies, routine disposal of samples, general cleaning, performing daily equipment maintenance); complies with laboratory safety and environmental protection policies and procedures, for handling and disposal of the different chemicals.
Communicates with R&D Manager or RDI project coordinator or customers to communicate progress on assigned projects.
Completes documentation related to test batches, lab tasks and other paperwork according to established company policy.
Maintains confidentiality of customer and product information and formulas and other sensitive and confidential information.
Exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works overtime as needed due to workplace demands. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
· High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent Degree required.
· Minimum of 1 year experience in a laboratory environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of: FDA Good Manufacturing Practices and OSHA Safety Requirements; Optiva software; Microsoft Office Suite.
Skill in: being organized and managing multiple tasks simultaneously; managing time efficiently and effectively.
Ability to: read, comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions including Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions; wear required PPE as needed (list any specific PPE for the role); work as part of a team; develops and maintain good working relationships; communicate effective with others both verbally and in writing.
