General Laborer

Position Overview | The Big Picture

The General Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to aid the daily operations in the warehouse. The General Laborer’s duties can include but are not limited to moving, storing, covering, and preparing props and furniture and completing general department maintenance tasks.  The General Laborer reports to the Department Manager as assigned, which could include Warehouse, Vessels, Fabric and Furniture Departments.  This position may take direction from Department Assistant Managers, Department Leads and Director of Production.

Essential Duties | What You’ll Do – The Fun Stuff 

• Moves, lifts, carries, loads, and places furniture weighing up to 100 pounds to designated areas in the warehouse. 

• Prepares inventory, props and furniture for events to include but not limited to:   drilling holes, nailing, hammering, hand and spray painting, polishing, cleaning and staining.
• Wraps furniture and props for delivery; unwraps and restocks inventory as needed.
• Cleans and sweeps workspace and department to ensure the work areas are clean, organized, safe and free from obstacles and debris.
• Takes appropriate precautions to ensure that no items are damaged while moving.

• Ensures proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and supplies. 

• Performs general maintenance, custodial, and trash removal tasks.

• Complies with all department and company safety guidelines, procedures, and rules. 
• Mentors safe work practices to co-workers and team.
• Completes all safety training as directed and within established timelines.

• Interfaces professionally with all people, internal and external, in a kind and respectful manner.
• Tracks and enters time and assigns hours and tasks to appropriate events and jobs in time and attendance system. 
• Completes all Human Resources and Payroll tasks and notifications through the Employee Self Service Online Portal on a weekly basis, as directed and within established timelines. 
• Assists in other departments as needed and directed.
• May perform other duties as required.

Qualifications | What You Need to Bring 

• Ability to understand, read and speak simple English.
• Good verbal communication skills to communicate successfully.
• Ability to interpret pull sheets.
• Familiarity with proper packing methods is helpful.
• Good knowledge and ability to use tools and equipment that may include:  hammer, screwdriver, hand drill, wire cutter, utility knife, tape measure, dollies, and 8 foot and 12 foot ladders.
• Ability to work flexible schedules to include evenings and weekends.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements | What it is Like in the Shop 

• Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, bend and reach during entire work shift.
• Able to walk 50-75% of the work shift.
• Ability to work with hands and arms during entire shift.
• Must be able to move and climb ladders without accommodation.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull 30-40 lbs. throughout the shift.  Occasionally may move up to and over 100 lbs. with assistance.
• Ability to handle fragile items safely.
• Must have 20/20 vision with correction.
• Must be able to tolerate cold, heat and humid conditions.
• May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals periodically during the work shift.
• Ability to tolerate moderate noise.
