What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laborer- Power position at Kelly Cable of N.M.?
As a Laborer, daily work will involve placement of fiber optic and copper or power cables, conduits, enclosures, vaults, cabinets, poles and related equipment. Most of the work is underground/excavation projects which includes frequent shovel work.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assists crew leader in construction, reconstruction and maintenance work
- Assists equipment operators by spotting/swamping, hand digging and locating underground obstructions
- Drives commercial vehicles equipped to transport a variety of materials and equipment
- Complete daily paperwork in an accurate manner
- Ensures the truck has current licenses, tags, permits, and proof of insurance
- Works with specialized equipment including jackhammers, rotary drills, demo saws and other industry tools
- Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
- Works safely around backhoes, excavators, trenchers and dump trucks
- Cleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
- Commitment to safety in all work
Success Factors:
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift
- Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
- Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
- Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
- English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
- Willingness and ability to learn additional skills
Experience and Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent desired
- Experience working with underground utilities desired
- CDL A is a plus
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
- Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
