Title: ANALYST 1-QUALITY LAB

Location: Modesto, CA

Pay: $20/hour

Shift: Day shift 8-12hour shifts

SUMMARY

Performs testing of raw materials, incoming, in process materials and finishing products testing to assure their conformance to quality requirements and the satisfaction of customers.

  • Develops and maintains an accurate Quality database; compiles and analyzes data; and issues data summaries and reports.

  • Maintains Quality Lab supplies and equipment, implements calibration and preventive maintenance programs.

  • Works with all departments as needed using SPC methods to continuously improve Quality department processes and practices.

  • Determines acceptance of materials and product, provide descriptive statistics of the quality of product and initiate corrective actions with supplier and/or operations. Understands manufacturing processes to provide proper guidance for corrective actions. Updates and maintains standard operating procedures. Manages quality improvement projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs routine and special Quality lab tests on raw materials, in-process materials and finished products as required to assure product quality.
  • Uses statistical methods, such as SPC charting, analyze all testing results and assure corrective actions are taken to address out-of-specification and out-of-control situations.
  • Approves or rejects finished product materials according to established specifications and certifies analyses of finished product shipments.
  • Maintains updated Quality lab testing procedures, improving them as needed to reduce testing variation.
  • Conducts studies in the Quality lab and in production to improve control of gauging and reduces measurement process variation.
  • Develops and manages the Quality lab database system, issuing data summaries and reports as needed.
  • Implements instrument calibration and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Administers the Quality lab safety program.
  • Completes special projects as assigned, which could include research of new materials and Quality Lab equipment, resolution of customer complaints and implementation of ISO 9000 Quality system.
  • Participates with Quality department team members as needed to solve problems and achieve improvement objectives.
  • Leads and participates on teams to solve problems and improve work processes, product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • Selects products for tests at specified stages in the production process, and tests products for a variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.
  • Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
  • Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.
  • Prepares graphs or charts of data or enters data into the computer for analysis.
  • Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree; or 4 years of manufacturing experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Must be able to work any shift.
  • Computer skill requirements include: Intermediate MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Required to lift and move up to 50 pounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Chemical Engineering or Packaging Engineering plus 2 years of durable goods or manufacturing experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of elementary statistics and statistical process control.
  • Skilled in the use of quality control laboratory equipment.
  • Experience reading and understanding the requirements contained in specifications and drawings.
  • Experience analyzing data to make, accept, and reject decisions.
  • Skilled in initiating and leading corrective actions with suppliers and operations.
  • Experience applying reason using scientific background and knowledge attained through testing.
  • Teamwork skills.
