Position Summary:

Communications Associate to support communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, and event management across the organization’s initiatives, projects, and programs. The associate will be skilled in graphic design, digital and social media, CMS and some experience in event organizing. The Associate will develop clear, concise, and effective communication through external-facing media, including social media, company websites, newsletters, and other marketing materials and have direct responsibility for all social media content. This position will report to the Communications Director and collaborate with other key staff members.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Produce graphic designs and layouts for presentations, handouts, and event invitations, banners, and program books; possess demonstrated knowledge of PowerPoint, Adobe Creative suite, Canva and/or preferred design tool
• Regularly post and manage social media content on established accounts, maintain and cultivate followers, keep an active and engaged social media presence, and analyze social media metrics
• Assist in website management by adding and editing content to maintain fresh, relative content; knowledge of CMS, preferably Expression Engine
• Develop story ideas that demonstrate the mission of BioSTL and research media opportunities and contacts in pursuit of local, regional, and national placements for BioSTL news and announcements
• Create content for use in targeted social media campaigns, utilizing LinkedIn ads, Google ads, and Twitter promoted features
• Cultivate stories and write and edit newsletters for internal and external distribution
• Work with all BioSTL team members to ensure communication and marketing needs of individual initiatives, programs, and projects are met
• Command of copy editing and adherence to brand standards in all writing and marketing materials
• Video interviewing, shooting, and editing
• Help plan, manage, and support events in conjunction with outside vendors for on-premise and off-premise events

The available position allows for different degrees of supporting or leadership roles, commensurate with demonstrated experience.

Required Qualifications:

• Associates degree at minimum (Bachelor’s degree preferred), or equivalent work experience in social media, graphic design, marketing, public relations, journalism, or advertising
• Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience working or interning in a professional environment
• Previous experience working as part of a results-oriented team in a deadline-driven environment
• Proficiency in word processing and document development applications, particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative suite, Canva, or preferred design workshop
