Key Job Responsibilities:
The Emergency Responder & Dispatcher role can be a high impact position that requires an individual to have the ability to react and make decision very quickly in a reactive mode. The Dispatcher is constantly interfacing with clients/customers and therefore demands a high level of leadership qualities.
Communication Skills
- The ERT Dispatcher should have excellent communication skills both oral communication and written communication.
- All reports are distributed by Dispatchers therefore it is important to have excellent writing skills.
- The Dispatchers are always the first contact regarding LOPC incidents and Odor Complaints, so good listening and verbal communication are vital.
- When an event is called in, the Dispatcher must play an investigative role and gain a thorough understanding of the situation, whether it be a request for service or an emergency.
- It is critical to document only the facts, concisely and accurately
- The foundation to all quality Dispatch work lies in proper communication. The Dispatchers are the focal point and main communication hub for the entire site.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- The Dispatcher is the main focal point for all communications. They coordinate all communications throughout all normal activities as well as all emergency incidents and utilize more resources on a day to day basis than any other ES&S Team member.
- The Dispatcher must have a thorough understanding of all department and Company procedures and how they apply to ES&S operations.
- Must work alone and be highly self-directed, especially after hours. Also, must be able to work within a group and take direction if necessary.
- Responsible for the distribution of all dispatch jobs to the field personnel and own the accountability of job completion.
- Responsible for notifying the necessary people (resources) on call for any event or issue.
- Keep the Site and Community informed of any conditions which could possibly affect them.
- Dispatch emergency equipment to all emergency scenes.
- Monitor all alarm systems which cover fire alarms, intrusion alarms, executive alarms, etc.
- Monitor closed circuit TV (CCTV) ranging from railroad gates, site perimeter, as well as vehicle and pedestrian access points.
- Monitor all Site radio frequencies.
- Operate the Site Alert System and know the different alerts to issue in given situations.
- Know the “four levels of emergencies” their differences and when to activate each.
- Operate the CAMEO/ALOHA system for dispersion modeling.
- Process all incident reports that are generated from ES&S.
- Handle a wide variety of external emergencies such as Distribution E/R.
- Provide Site Logistics support for the TTCC.
- Keep composure and maintain control during all emergency situations and be professional and courteous to all people.
Professionalism
- Must have a high level of integrity and professionalism.
- Candidate must always set the right example by leading with no exception to the rules. Must present themselves in a highly professional manner to all levels of management and their representatives.
- Must set an example of following all site, state and federal rules and laws. Required Experience/Certifications.
- At a minimum candidate must have a NREMT-BASIC certification and fire fighter training Preferred Experience.
- Industrial and chemical plant experience.
- Rope rescue and confined space training.
- Higher compensation may be considered for candidates with additional credentials.
