POSITION: HSE / Safety Specialist — Orange, Texas Site
POSITION SUMMARY:
- The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) technician will assist with management of the safety and environmental programs
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports operationally and administratively to the Site HSE Manager.
HSE:
- Ensure that health, safety, security, and protection of the environment are given the highest priority in all activities performed at the site.
- When a situation is deemed unsafe the employee has the authority to stop an activity, operation or piece of equipment that may cause harm to a person, to the environment or to equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Know and follow all HSE policies/procedures always
- Responsible for field level implementation of HSE policies, procedures and guidelines. Risk identification and management, incident reporting and investigation
- The role will provide oversight of site HSE compliance activities and programs and will lead/support HSE initiatives and inform management of critical issues
- The HSE Technician will perform safety risk management as well as HSE compliance audits, HSE incident investigations, problem solving and overall policy/program training
- The HSE Technician will participate in continuous improvement initiatives, as required
- Ensure consistent adherence to, and execution of, Company safety and environmental standards
- Provide technical support in management of HSE related topics including: Lockout, Confined Space, Emergency Response, Hazard Communication, Overhead Cranes, Mobile Equipment, Solvay Life Saving Safety Rules, Waste Management, Spill Response, etc
- Perform onsite safety audits of employees, processes, contractors, vendors, etc.
- Recognize process safety conditions, and coach operations staff accordingly
- Manage HSE incident investigations and reporting, including root cause analysis, development of corrective action strategies, maintaining statistical information, recommending program revisions as appropriate and issue required reports to Management
- Provide technical support and problem solving in troubleshooting safety and environmental issues
- Coordinate and instruct safety-related training classes, and act as subject matter expert for Safety meetings
- Vendor interface for company policy communications & expectations
- Always know and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Exercise stop work authority in the event of unsafe conditions or situations
- Assist in writing technical and management systems reports and documents
- Establish and maintain HSE controls and documentation procedures
- Assist with internal compliance audits and program evaluations
- Oversee department sub-contractor support as needed
- Support the HSE department as a valuable and knowledgeable resource
EDUCATION:
- Associate of Science degree in Safety or any HSE-related discipline, or equivalent 5 years' experience
- Minimum of 2 years of HSE experience
- Experience working within manufacturing/chemical industry (preferred)
- First responder/CPR trained (desired)
- Experience with RCMS 14001, ISO 9001, Gensuite, Integrated Management Systems, and associated documentation and audits (desired)
REQUIREMENTS:
- Safety and Environmental regulatory knowledge
- Highly organized and able to successfully manage multiple projects
- Outstanding communication skills
- Capable of working independently in a self-directed environment

PHYSICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The physical demands would be that the ideal candidate will be able to walk up 5 flights of stairs, lift up to 50 lbs., and walk throughout the site daily.
