Required Qualifications:

1. Valid Washington State teacher's certificate appropriate for middle school

2. Endorsement in Elementary Ed and ELL

3. Satisfactory Evaluations


Preferred Qualifications:

1. Previous experience working in a multicultural setting

2. Experience and/or training with computer technology and ability to assist students with computer operations

3. Effectively communicates and develops relationship with students, teachers, administrators, parents and public.

4. Able to work with interruptions while balancing daily responsibilities.

5. Able to monitor student progress under teacher supervision.

6. Experience and/or education in working with English Language Learning students in a middle school setting

7. Successful experience working with bilingual/bicultural students, and willingness to be flexible in the scheduling/support of students.

8. Successful experience working with GLAD models of instruction; ability to work well with adults in establishing learning goals for ELL students.

9. Successful experience with placing students based on assessment, and experience with th ELPA assessments.

10. Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition and the effective methods of instruction for bilingual students at all stages of development.

11. Demonstrated knowledge of English language proficiency standards and current common assessments.

12. Evidence of GLAD certification or willingness to be trained in the support of GLAD strategies for teaching staff.

13. Evidence of participation in professional learning communities, and willingness to support a variety of PLCs and data meetings.

14. Demonstrated knowledge of current ELL curriculum and standard methodology.

15. Evidence of ability to be a self-starter.

16. Able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

17. Willing to become first-aid certified if required.

18. Punctual and consistent attendance.


Job Responsibilities:

The Teacher in this position will:

1. Collect, organize, and analyze student academic performance data

2. Work with administration and grade level leaders to place students in correct LAP academic support classes.

3. Participate in staff in-service training, meetings, activities and PBIS building culture and behavior model.

4. Maintain professionalism by being confidential with all school-related information.

5. Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner. Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior.

6. Use PBIS and trauma informed practices, or at the very least shares your philosophy and is eager to learn.

7. Strive to be student trauma (ACES) informed.

8. Use the push-in model as much as possible, pull-out model in special situations.

9. Do student observations in the classroom setting to look for triggers, opportunities to self-regulate, warm greeting zones, etc.

10. Interact with people and speak in a manner that reflects community standards of politeness, civility and human sensitivity.

11. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.

12. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.

13. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.


Job Description:

1. Prepare lessons and provide instruction using direct instruction materials and other appropriate intervention techniques for at-risk readers grades 6-8.

2. Work with classroom teachers to help access and place students in intervention groups.

4. Create a rank order list of students based on test scores and update regularly.

5. Maintain and distribute student learning plans for qualified students.

6. Add and delete LAP qualified students into PowerSchool when they enter and exit the school.

7. Order supplemental instructional materials with the approval of the building Principal.

8. Maintain all records according to specified timelines and LAP program requirements.

9. Regularly attend district level Title 1/LAP program meetings.

10. Attend and participate in faculty and team meetings as scheduled.

11. Assist in the selection of supplemental materials and equipment.

12. Supervise paraeducators assigned to work with small groups.

13. Establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with other Chinook staff.

14. Prepare permission slips for all LAP reading and math qualified students. Gather signatures on each.

15. Encourage parent involvement, participate in parent/teacher conferences, and create and maintain good relationships with parents.

16. Assist in all applicable assessment sessions throughout the school year (WIDA).

17. Generate monthly Time and Effort reports documents for all LAP paraeducators and gather signatures monthly.

18. Prepare progress reports and report cards for qualified students.

19. Required academic skills to assist students (i.e. knowledge in sciences, language arts, math, reading and social studies).

20. Provide thematic based instruction and activities designed to increase English communication skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) of students who are identified as language learners.

21. Lead the development of a successful middle school ELL program; commitment to a "push in" model of instruction.

22. Document ELL students' progress.

23. Maintain records as necessary for efficient procedures and evaluations.

24. Prepare for and participate in parent involvement activities.

25. Attend and participate in meetings designed to assist in conducting a strong program, and serve as Chinook Middle School's ELL specialist in district planning meetings.

26. Provide individual plans for each student for their continued course of study, and "track and follow" level 3 and 4 students toward their success.

27. Assist in the supervision and placement of all Bilingual students at our school.

28. Implement the requirements of IDEA Section 504 and ADA in the education of students.

29. Plan for and supervise paraeducators and student assistants.

30. Conduct home visits as necessary.

31. Other duties as assigned.

32. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.

33. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

34. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.

23. Perform other duties as assigned.

**COMPLETION OF SAFE SCHOOLS WEB BASED TRAINING IS REQUIRED AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**


Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.


Out-of-District applicants must complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
