Lifeguard Job Summary
The basic responsibility of the lifeguard is to oversee the SAFETY of all people using the pool and pool area. To do this, the lifeguard must act in a responsible and professional manner at all times. Candidates must be able to ensure the safety of patrons by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. This person will need to be able to solve on-the-job issues by utilizing effective critical thinking and decision-making skills and possess the ability to work with diverse populations. Lifeguards must be able to enforce pool policies and be able to communicate effectively why policies are in place.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Monitor pool-related activities closely throughout shift and identify any safety issues
- Direct swimmers out of pool in hazardous conditions
- Monitor swimmers at all times in order to ensure safety
- Maintain a clean environment around pool
- Monitor and record pool water chemistry.
- Clean bathrooms, replace toilet paper and paper towels as necessary.
- Provide assistance to swimmers and pool guests at any given time
- Provide timely availability schedule to Superintendent as requested
- Available to work weekdays, evenings and weekend days and evenings
Physical Demands:
- Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.
- Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time.
Qualification Requirements:
- Hold current certificates in lifeguard training, CPR, and first aid
- Have the ability to strictly follow safety rules
- Be self-directed and alert
- Dependable and punctual
- Have reliable transportation
