What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cattery Caretaker position at Kent Animal Shelter?
Kent Animal Shelter seeks a full time cat caretaker to care for its shelter cats. The cat caretaker will be responsible for providing compassionate and attentive care for the cats at all times. As a cat caretaker you will ensure the general health and wellness of the cats as you assist them in finding quality homes. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting the public during the adoption process, feeding the animals, cleaning and disinfecting cat condos and living areas and assisting with other duties as needed. Applicants must have a genuine desire to improve the lives of homeless pets. Responsibilities: Daily, thorough cleaning of all animal areas. Feeding and providing water for the animals, including providing special diets as needed. Monitoring the health of the animals on an ongoing basis. Medicating animals as directed Assessing the temperament of the cats to facilitate finding the best possible placement for each individual animal. Doing laundry, dishes, cleaning and mopping cattery areas as needed. Maintaining a friendly demeanor and providing high quality customer service while assisting the public. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid Driver's License required. Must be willing to transport dogs/cats to/from veterinarian and sometimes airports with the use of a company provided vehicle. Also must have own reliable transportation to get to/from work. EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES AND QUALITIES REQUIRED Animal Sheltering or cattery experience preferred. Previous Customer Service skills preferred. Flexibility, ability to manage multiple tasks. Ability and initiative, work with minimal supervision and direction. Knowledge of animal behavior and common medical conditions preferred. Physical Requirements: Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. Must be able to work in all weather conditions Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis and be capable of consistently performing the job for a minimum of a full 8-hr day (8am-4pm) Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including, but not limited to: lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending.
Must be 21 years or older.
