Position Overview
This position, with a start date of August 15, 2024, will join our outstanding Arts Department excited to expand its musical offerings. This full-time teaching position will also include advising a group of students, actively participating in the residential life program, and developing a robust after-school music program. The successful applicant will have a vision and enthusiasm for helping our students engage with all aspects of music and performance. The Arts Department is committed to the idea that all students are creative learners and our role is to encourage them to expand their artistic skill-set and engage with a breadth of creative experiences.
The ideal candidate will possess:
A passion for teaching and engaging students in performing arts
An innovative approach to teaching and learning that inspires high school aged students
An articulated vision for a strong performing arts program at Kents Hill School and an ability to bring that vision to fruition
Enthusiasm to collaborate on department-wide initiatives, curriculum developments, and events
Bachelor’s degree in music education, music, or related experience. Master’s preferred
Experience with teaching both vocal and instrumental music
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Key responsibilities include:
Teaching a range of music courses dependent on instructor experience and student interest. Examples of recent/current courses: Electric Composition, Music Theory, Introduction to Guitar, Introduction to Live Performance, Freshman Arts Seminar
Directing music/performing arts afternoon activities or coaching two athletic seasons
Overseeing the Bodman Performing Arts Center
Being committed to the entire boarding school student experience and excited to engage with students both inside and outside of the classroom. Typically, this includes living in a campus residence and participating in all aspects of residential life; advising a group of students; and involvement in afternoon and extracurricular activities
