Description
The Energy and Environment Cabinet, Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves, Land Management Branch, has a direct impact on the management, protection and preservation of Kentucky's important ecological landscapes. This position works with land managers and scientists to address land management and protection needs throughout the Commonwealth. The Environmental Control Supervisor is a management position that will provide you the opportunity to work across branches within the Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves, with the regulated community, and other agencies.

We are seeking candidates with leadership, planning, land management expertise and organizational skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Plans, assigns and supervises the work of staff in the Land Management Branch
  • Assists staff in developing work plans
  • Meets with representatives of local, state, and federal agencies
  • Works with federal and state partners to secure funding and determine land management needs for rare ecosystems and species within Kentucky
  • Researches Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves rules, guidance, and policies
  • Provides management recommendations for the Heritage Land Conservation Fund, Wild Rivers and Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves properties

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a natural or physical science.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Seven years of experience in natural resources, environmental control, mining reclamation, mining inspection or regulation of mining activities, energy conservation, energy development, energy management, blasting activities, or oil and gas well inspection.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in the physical or biological sciences will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in natural resources, environmental control, mineral extraction, mining reclamation, mining inspection or regulation of mining activities (such as mine permit preparation and review, sediment pond and hollowfill design), energy conservation, energy development, energy management, blasting activities, or oil and gas well inspection will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
