POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller is a key role on an integrated team of accounting professionals that work together to deliver on kept.pro’s mission: providing small businesses with the financial information and insight they need to compete in their respective industries. This position will need to exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance that will impact both our clients and our financial wellbeing. You are a critical thinker, are able to teach your team how to think critically, and will jump in to solve problems and create solutions. The Assistant Controller is comfortable with a high email volume and leans into technology to work efficiently and collaboratively.
The ideal candidate strikes a balance between being a leader as well as a doer. As a leader, you will train, lead and develop a team of bookkeepers and review their work. As a doer, you enjoy preparing and reviewing financial reporting packages with clients as well as the opportunity to be heads down and work on more complex accounting tasks as a “solutions architect”.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE
- Manage your team to deliver client financial packages on time
- Complete assigned project work within stated deadlines
- Retain and develop your team
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Using independent judgment and discretion to accomplish client goals
- Primary communicator with clients
- Performing accounting functions within QuickBooks Online
- Ability to determine effect of accounting transactions based on an Accrual or Cash Basis
- Prepare the initial draft of monthly financial statements
- Lead the month end close process
- Maintain supporting Balance Sheet schedules, for example: Prepaid Expenses, Accrued Expenses, Fixed Asset Schedule
- Prepare and record month end journal entries
- Compete the full cycle duties for A/R and A/P
- Partnering with a variety of vendors and platforms to complete accounting operations (e.g. expense management software, payroll providers, etc)
- Prepare and review payroll
- Complete payroll liabilities reconciliations
- Prepare and review Sales Tax
- Assisting team members on special projects as required
- Training, reviewing and providing technical oversight for team members’ work
- Prepare summary comments for financial packages
- Produce, deliver and present/review financial packages
- Validate and/or troubleshoot 3rd party integrations
- Champion approved technologies, best practices, and efficient workflows within the team
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with multiple clients / entities (>10-20), across a variety of industries to deliver bookkeeping or accounting services
- 8 years bookkeeping or accounting experience
- An Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field
- Experience working in a remote environment and leading a distributed team
- A high comfort level engaging with clients
- Analytical thinker that is skilled in creative problem solving
- Exceptional attention to detail, ability to prioritize work and collaborate with team members to meet deadlines and billing targets
- Excellent organizational, oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain highly self-motivated, organized, and adaptable
- Experience working in a remote environment with a distributed team
- High level of comfort with leveraging tools and technology to collaborate with team members
- Proficiency working in QuickBooks Online
- Strong preference for candidates with experience in bill.com
- Reside within Central time zone
Salary : $75,000 - $85,000
