KERAMIDA Inc. is seeking a skilled professional to perform environmental compliance inspections and monitoring services. Our Environmental Compliance Inspector will oversee contractor implementation of environmental controls and mitigation measures through the performance of daily field inspections, initiate corrective actions where appropriate, and ensure compliance with construction standards and specific contract documents.

Successful applicants will have a college degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, Ecology, or a related field, and have two (2) to six (6) years' experience in environmental inspections or a related field. The applicant must be capable of exercising initiative and independent judgment in performing inspections. Requires CESSWI certification. Experience in utility construction is a plus.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • On the road, Sandusky, Ohio area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee usually works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.

  • Often works around asphalt, concrete, and dust.
  • Inspects construction projects to enforce ordinances and the requirements of erosion control, stormwater management, and other related codes and regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable codes and regulations; ensures adherence to approved plans, materials, and specifications; and prepares inspection reports.
  • Communicates with contractors, property owners, and engineers to explain codes and regulations.
  • Performs technical work inspecting local construction projects to ensure quality control, environmental protection and safety rules are enforced; investigates all complaints, creates notices of violation, does follow up inspections and site visits for compliance.
  • Reviews construction plans and keeps accurate files.
  • Communicates daily and tactfully with contractors, engineers, field workers and other State and Federal agencies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Training & Experience

Bachelor degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, Ecology or a related field, and two (2) to six (6) years of experience in environmental compliance inspections. Utility construction experience is a plus.

(CESSWI) obtained within one (1) year of employment.

Possession of a valid driver's license.

Special Requirements

  • Knowledge of construction practices, materials, and equipment, and of the various stages of construction is a plus.
  • Knowledge of State and local erosion ordinances and codes.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting a variety of reports, blueprints, Inspection slips, inspection requests, diagrams, specifications, codes and regulations, architectural drawings, etc.
  • Adept at exercising judgment in applying standards to a variety of work situations.
  • Competency in exercising tactfulness and firmness in dealing with contractors, property owners and the general public.
  • Ability to prepare reports using prescribed format.
  • Expert efficiency at recording and delivering information, explaining procedures, and following oral and written instructions.
  • Communicates respectfully and professionally.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
