What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Maintenance Superintendent - Department Promotional position at Kern County?
This is a Department Promotional Examination and is open only to current eligible employees of the Kern County Public Works Department who have successfully completed their initial probationary period and received an overall rating of standard or better on the last employee performance report.
EXAMINATION SCHEDULE:
- Oral Exam: will be conducted on July 12
- If a second day is needed: oral exams will be conducted on July 13
Examinations:
Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled date/time/location without exception.
Oral Exam (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising the applicant's training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:
Sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units of college course work from an accredited college or university AND four (4) years of work experience directing and overseeing a program area such as equipment maintenance or highway painting and maintenance or road construction and maintenance or waste operations, one (1) year if which must have been in a supervisory capacity;
OR
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent AND six (6) years of work experience directing and overseeing a program area, such as equipment maintenance or highway painting and maintenance or road construction and maintenance or waste operations, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle License.
Some Positions May Require:
Incumbents may be required to successfully complete a 40-hour HAZWOPER training program within 6 months of hire or be terminated.
Incumbents may be required to maintain a Class A California Driver’s License.
