Department Overview

The Executive Director of Laboratories provides leadership of clinical and anatomical pathology care, directly overseeing all operational aspects of the enterprise laboratory services. Inherent responsibilities include strategic and operational planning and control, human resource development and evaluation, financial and contractual control for all direct expenses, and all elements involved in ensuring quality enhancement and the achievement of agreed upon operational outcomes using a performance improvement model to achieve best of class performance in the key result areas. Perform other duties as assigned. Reports to the Vice President Clinical Ancillary Services and Kettering Health Campus Executive

Responsibilities & Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • 1. Identifies and tracks emerging trends in laboratory medicine that may necessitate course adjustments to the strategic plans of the department and the institution.
  • 2. In Collaboration with network laboratory initiatives, leads the development and direction of the departmental process improvement programs and innovative laboratory services.
  • 3. In Collaboration with network laboratory initiatives Leads the ongoing review and improvement of laboratory services assuring that best of class distinction is obtained within the parameters of applicable professional and technical standards, and regulatory agency expectations.
  • 4. In Collaboration with network laboratory initiatives Develops and implements effective methodologies to achieve best of class distinction for pathology and ensures compliance with CAP, HFAP, federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • 5. Plans, develops, and implements effective learning programs which maximize the skills, knowledge, and career enrichment of technical and non-technical staff.
  • 6. Demonstrates knowledge of, and adherence to, department policies and procedures.
  • 7. Assists in developing, interpreting, supporting, and executing the goals of the institution within the organizational framework of the Pathology Department
  • .8. Collaborates with peers, colleagues and the medical staff to support interdependent functions and practices (especially within the framework of process improvement and under the guidance of outcome related data.)
  • 9. Provides consultation and guidance pertaining to laboratory services as needed to leadership and peers.
  • 10. Serves on various hospital committees and interdepartmental teams as needed.

 

Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in medical technology, business administration, or hospital administration and a minimum of six years administrative experience in a hospital clinical laboratory required.

 

  • Preferred Requirements: • Medical Technologist (ASCP) or specialty registry
