Responsibilities & Requirements

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides executive leadership, direction and coordination of financial/accounting operations including oversight of financial statements, monthly close for Kettering Health and capital, in a manner consistent with organizational mission and objectives.  The position will be the CFO of Kettering Network Services (KNS), covering $350-$400M of annual expenses across all non-clinical Network/System departments.  This includes financial goal/objective setting across expense budgets and capital expenditures, assessing the financial and strategic value of key investments being proposed by KNS organizations, and working closely with KNS leaders and EFG to prioritize the most important initiatives. The position also includes leadership of treasury functions, including debt issuance, rating agency relationships, investment management and treasury operations.  

 

Assists the KH Chief Financial Officer, by advancing our practice and implementation of financial responsibility while utilizing our “One Best Practice” goals across the network.   Supports the implementation of KH mission, vision and values.

Implements, maintains, and interprets financial policies; participates in developing and planning system-wide programs, policies and projects.

 

6.

Keeps abreast of operational trends in the healthcare industry.

 

7.

Analyzes available financial data and reports, assuring compliance with approved budgets, and controlling costs.

 

8.

Assists in the development and implementation of business goals and strategic plans.

 

9.

Oversees financial operational results for all business units, including acute care hospitals, outpatient facilities and operations, and physician clinic operations.

 

10.

Develops annual operating and capital budgets with input from appropriate committees and individuals.

Maintains compatible investment and debt programs to manage capital markets risk and maintain a healthy balance sheet that meets appropriate rating agency benchmarks.

 

       12.

Provides financial reports with appropriate analysis to the Board of Directors and corporate officers.

 

13.

Communicates effectively with individuals of varying cultures, psycho-social needs and ages.

 

 

 

 

E. Collaborative

 

1.

Participates in community activities as appropriate to promote the goodwill and positive image of Kettering Health and its mission.

 

2.

Attends meetings of professional, civic, and service organizations and contributes in a leadership role as appropriate.

 

3.

Provides leadership on service line development and analysis.

 

4.

Conducts routine meetings with appropriate leaders across the network along with physicians and community partners to advance referral and reform strategies.

 

5.

Supervises and coordinates performance of those directors and individuals reporting to the System VP for Finance, including:

·         Executive director of finance

·         Treasury operations coordinator

 

       6.

Makes recommendations to and advises other officers and corporate leadership to ensure fiscal integrity.

 

       7.

Develops and maintains close working relationships with regulators and third-party payors.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

·         Master’s Degree

·         CPA or professional designation preferred.

·         Appropriate continuing education courses.

 

Experience

Ten or more years of administrative and executive experience in health care financial management is required. Demonstrated experience in learning and setting up collaborative relationships along with strategy, project direction, planning and implementation.

 

 

 

Knowledge and Abilities   

Knowledge in areas of health care finance, government regulations, management theory, reimbursement, budgeting, capital markets, health technologies and other areas as appropriate. Excellent human relations and oral and written communication skills. Positive demeanor in one’s approach to dealing with people and problems.

 

Professional Affiliations

Membership in appropriate professional organizations such as American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Healthcare Financial Management Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives and/or other appropriate professional organizations is considered a necessary element of this position.  Participation in community organizations which will enhance the effectiveness of the incumbent or KH is encouraged.

 

 

Work Environment

The incumbent will generally work the normal business day in an office environment, manipulating common work materials such as binders, ledgers, and computer equipment, frequently moving about the organization and to external meeting sites.  Occasional long-distance trips may be required.  While working the normal business day is customary, KH is a 24-hour operation subject to varying and unpredictable situations and may require the incumbent to handle emergency or crisis situations, be subject to many interruptions, work long and irregular hours, and require off-shift or weekend attendance.
