What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Manager position at KeyStaff?
The Transportation Manager role will support our Distribution Centers, field operations, import operations and customers. This role will have oversight of transportation at all three Jacent Strategic Merchandising distribution centers. The Transportation Manager will own the freight-carrier vendor relationships and maintain continuous improvement strategies to insure the timely delivery of product to our customers. This position will also assist with import operations, contract evaluations, and cost modeling.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage all freight carrier relationships – Small parcel, LTL and Truckload
- Manage daily communications with carriers, acts as a liaison between Distribution Centers and carriers
- Ensure all loads are picked up/delivered in a timely manner
- Establishes and maintains smooth operations of the transportation function
- Assist with import operations, contract negotiations and cost modeling
- Assist current team with managing imports into US ports
- Evaluate drayage options, and port selection
- Negotiate and evaluate contracts and pricing
- Leverage volumes from all Distribution Centers to ensure competitive pricing
- Negotiates with freight carriers on terms and conditions
- Develops new carrier relationships
- Continuously strive for improvements through:
- Developing/maintaining KPI monitoring tools
- Analyze and report cost trends
- Seek improvement opportunities to deliver quality products to our customers on time at competitive transportation cost
- Develop /maintain KPI scorecard
- Understand and demonstrate safe work practices at all times to ensure a safe work environment.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by your supervisor
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains Vendor Routing Guides
- Ensures compliance with customers for outbound loads
- Assist in import process, customs paperwork, container scheduling to the DC’s
- Works with buying and vendors on cost efficient freight programs to reduce total costs
- Develop strong relationships with other key departments including warehouse, sales, buying and executive leadership: effectively communicate delivery issues in a timely manner

Experience and Credentials
- 7 years Transportation leadership required
- International experience a requirement
- Small parcel and LTL contract negotiation experience highly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Business/Supply Chain or related field or equivalent work experience required
This role will report on a hybrid basis to the New Jersey Distribution Center.
