What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator position at KGPCo?
Summary: The Equipment Operator is responsible for Operating heavy & light construction equipment- including backhoes, cable plow, Mini-Ex, Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) & other types of machinery & assures maintenance of these as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Traffic Control set up & tear down
- Ability to drive trucks & equipment to job sites
- Other duties as may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position
- Maintains company equipment per service requirements and safety guidelines.
- Directly responsible for all personal actions and any personnel, vehicles or equipment in the care, custody, or control.
- Report any personal or vehicle/equipment accidents/incidents immediately to supervisors, corporate and assist in the investigation of same
SAFETY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

o KGPCo Injury and Illness Prevention Program Manual
· Participate in job site safety/hazard analysis
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and/or QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- A class A CDL or the ability to obtain one is preferred but not required
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience with operating heavy equipment to include horizontal directional drilling, mini excavators, hydro-excavation equipment etc.
- 2 years of experience in utility construction preferred
- Must be able to differentiate colors.
- Must be able to read and understand manufacture’s manuals for operating and repairing of equipment and components.
- Possess general knowledge of construction practices.
- Knowledge of reading and understanding blueprints is preferred.
- Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather (i.e. snow, rain, wind, etc.) and work overtime as required.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen/criminal background test
