Position Summary : Tutors will assist the learning specialist in providing individualized academic support, through peer tutoring, to program participants Responsibilities : Assist students in developing competency in course work.
Provide one-on-one support and encouragement to help the student develop an increased sense of confidence in his or her own abilities.
Encourage students to become independent learners by suggesting more adequate tools of study. Participate in tutor orientation and training sessions.
e., filing, copying, organizing, etc. Assist in administration of periodic assessments of program. Recordkeeping : Complete required documentation.
The tutor contact log must be signed by the tutee after each tutoring session lasting more than 5 minutes; notes on the session should be included.
Tutor evaluations shall be given to the student for completion at least twice per month and dropped in the evaluations box.
Minimum Position Requirements : Earned a minimum of an 85 in the course to tutor and obtain a positive written recommendation from a college instructor in the field of instruction.
Have a minimum 3.0 GPA in core courses. Demonstrate competency in communicating with others. Possess characteristics of responsibility, desire to help others, flexibility, as well as an open-minded, non-judgmental attitude.
Physical Demands and Work Environment : (BELOW is the standard’; some positions may have alternative items as well) Work is normally performed in a typical interior / office work environment.
No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 30 pounds.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk. Safety : (BELOW is the standard’; some positions may have alternative items as well) Provide resources for safe operation of units.
Create and support workplace safety. Application Process : Obtain an application form from the TRIO office. Complete and return application to the learning specialist.
Attend an interview with the learning specialist. Submit recommendation forms to appropriate instructors and verify receipt of forms with learning specialist.

Salary Range & Fringe Benefits : The rate of pay is up to $10-$12 per hour depending on experience for up to 19 hours per week.
