Job Title: Reach Associate
Reports to: Campus Principal
FSLA Status: Non-exempt
Summary
The Extension Associate provides both instructional and non-instructional support to a team of teachers, as designated by the team’s Multi-Classroom Teacher.
(S)he works closely with the teacher to complete various administrative tasks and non-instructional paperwork.
(S)he manages procedures and supervises student behavior during transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, and other unstructured activities, and while teacher(s) deliver instruction.
In some schools, (s)he aids instruction by supervising time on projects, skills practice, and digital learning, and instructs students in a whole group setting, small groups, and/or individually.
Facilitates all activities and lesson plans as directed by the Multi-Classroom Teacher or Team Reach Teachers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include The Following
Internalizes lesson plans of the Multi-Classroom Teacher or Team Reach Teachers to ensure quality instruction is provided to students in the absence of the teacher.
Holds students accountable for high expectations of behavior, engagement, and work completion that are ambitious and measurable.
Contributes to a culture of respect, enthusiasm, and rapport.
Manages student behavior during transitions and less structured time (e.g., recess, lunch).
Monitors independent work time in classroom while teacher provides instruction.
Tutor’s small groups and individuals, under the direction and using the tools/rubrics of the supervising teachers.
Supports and supervises students with projects, skill practice, and digital learning.
Solicits and eagerly receives feedback from Multi-Classroom Teacher and team members to improve professional skills.
Maintains administrative duties on behalf of teacher (such as taking attendance, entering grades, scheduling parent conferences, preparing student activities and assignments, checking homework, additional paperwork).
Collaborates with teacher(s), tutor(s), and other instructional assistant(s), if applicable.
Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities and/or Professional Learning Communities.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
Associate degree, 48 semester hours, or academic assessment.
If assisting with instruction: Knowledge of subject matter being taught.
CERTIFICATES, LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS
State Board for Educator Certification for Educational Aide III.
LANGUAGE
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, other employees of the organization, and parents.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw an interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and carry 15-44 pounds; occasionally lift and carry 45 pounds and more; may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee may be required to be exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
