SUMMARY OF POSITION: (Mission) The primary purpose of this position is to drive the development and migration of 5-year Brand Innovation Plans to deliver top line growth and bottom-line improvement in Adult and Feminine Care Business. The position is responsible for providing strategic and tactical vision for the Adult and Feminine Care Product platform (disposable and reusable products) Development and Commercialization plans under the principles of Design Control & Governance. The incumbent must drive towards 5-year global plan alignment across K-C’s four business regions. ORGANIZATION: People Responsibilities/ reporting line/partnerships Reports to: Global AFC R&D Director Direct reports: Approximately 15 (8-17) Collaboration / Customers: Key internal customers include the Regional President, all Adult and Feminine Care senior level leadership within Research & Engineering, Depend®, Poise®, Kotex® and Thinx® Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, and Product Supply leadership. These customers expect visionary Brand Innovation leadership, product platform Learning Plan management and 5-year migration plan development that connects technology and asset migration to the longer-term business vision. Key external customers include Consultants and Research Organizations and vendors, direct and through Sourcing and Supply Management. These customers expect a clear understanding of the product design and technology migration plans so they can focus on key deliverables. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Leads the global 5-year Innovation pipeline initiatives for adult and feminine care development end to end. Works with global R&E leaders and team members to ensure pipeline initiatives are satisfied. Ensure the identification and effective execution of Innovation/Insights (FEI), Development and Commercialization to deliver business plans. Sets the standard for team and provides technical leadership and direction for the growth and improvement of the design control team and conformance to Kimberly-Clark Design Control & Governance Process. Provides team leadership, guidance, advice, and support staff in areas of technical consultation, documentation, quality, GMP procedures, interfaces with other functions, and company policy. Leads team to designs and develops innovative and/or low-cost products/systems to support both short- and long-term global business plans. Leads and resources team to create concepts prototype devices utilizing innovative material and process technologies to achieve concept objectives. Leads team in partnership with quality team to conducts and/or oversees design reviews and performance of failure mode and effects analysis. Leads multi-functional product development teams by coordinating/delegating technical and administrative responsibilities, identifying critical action items and obtaining closure, and following corporate product development guidelines. Leverages project management professionals on the team to ensure project performance. Develops and/or reviews laboratory tests and protocols to assure conformance of prototype devices to performance specifications, FDA regulatory and biocompatibility requirements. Leads and resources evaluation of device performance through human clinical investigation; and, as required, implements appropriate product changes to include revision of performance specifications. Transfers new products/systems to Manufacturing to include: Material specifications, Quality test requirements, technical instruction, Interfaces with vendors, consultants, and customers. Leads team to provide technical direction to manufacturing during pilot production, as well as on currently manufactured products. Communicates project status, through verbal and written reports and schedules, to management. Maintains accurate and timely records of the development of products according to design review protocols. Hires, trains and coaches Scientists, Engineers, Project leaders, and Technicians to thrive in a results-driven environment. Implements performance management duties including performance appraisals and salary reviews. Plans and manages the platform expense budget. Maintains a current status field of expertise through: Continuing Education, Symposia, Professional Association, Benchmarking/Comp. Assessments, Patents, Supports all development activities via application of technical expertise. Actively participates in R&D Strategic Imperatives toward R&D excellence. Qualifications – External MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: B.S. degree in engineering or science discipline with 5 years in R&D/New product development; preferred M.S. degree in related field in R&D/NPD. High level of written and verbal communication skills. Leadership skills to effectively coach, mentor and manage a technical group with broad responsibilities. Experience as in team leadership roles. Creativity in new product concepts, designs and manufacturing processes. Preferred previous experience with highly regulated products, development, engineering, and design controls. Preferred experience in development of materials and products utilized in reusable garments. Ability to work in a matrix organization and drive collaboration across functions/departments.
