Job Description

We are searching for a Hardware Engineer I -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will design, develop, document, and tests electronic hardware for the electricity metering industry.

The Hardware Engineer I will perform circuit design/analysis/evaluation of metrology, AC/DC power, communication protocols, signal integrity, small signal analog measurement, power electronics, transient protection, microcontroller interfaces, will plan and develop experimental test programs, and will analyze test data for conformance to functional, performance, and reliability specifications.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Provides direction to Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designers.
• Selects, evaluates, and qualifies components with inputs from lead engineers.
• Participates in developing system design specifications including functional requirements, detailed design specifications, interface specifications, and production test procedures, designs to industry standards where applicable.
• Provides technical direction to technicians.
• Participates in developing and implementing design verification testing processes and procedures.
• Contributes to design reviews, DFMEA's, and system test efforts.
• May assume responsibility for existing product enhancement and maintenance efforts.
• Updates job skills through mentoring/coaching, seminars, classes, and journals.
• Supports and adheres to Company's core values.
• Performs other duties or responsibilities as assigned or required.
• Supports and adheres to Company's Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy.
• Represents Company in a positive, professional manner when working with both internal and external customers.

Skills & Requirements

• Required Minimum Level of Education: 4-year STEM degree with knowledge of Electrical Engineering practices
• Preferred Education: bachelor's degree in electrical / Electronic Engineering field
• Entry Level: 0-4 years of experience
• Knowledge of electrical engineering, component selection, PCB layout, hardware test and test equipment, etc.
• Proficient use of lab equipment - o-scopes, spectrum analyzers, AC power supplies, DMM's, etc.
• Proficient with schematic capture, circuit simulation, and PCB layout (Altium experience preferred)
• Experience with power electronics such as transformers, regulators, switching supplies, filtering, and high voltage design is highly desirable
• Experience in product development and manufacturing processes highly desirable
• Ability to work on complex R&D projects under the supervision of more senior team members
• Ability to communicate effectively across audiences of diverse backgrounds through multiple mediums
• Ability to exercise critical thinking and creative problem solving, demonstrating learning agility and an innovative spirit
• Ability to learn to use data effectively to solve problems and support ideas
• Ability to stay current on changing technologies and their applications in the utility industry
• Ability to learn and grow knowledge in hardware engineering
• Ability to understand the core product and deliver assigned improvements
• Ability to complete/validate small features with oversight
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
