Kinexus Group has been a steadily growing and evolving organization.   Our team is comprised of competent and caring business professionals who are innovative, resourceful, collaborative and helpful in facilitating the financial management and accountability of Kinexus Group.   The perfect candidate will be a system thinker, experienced with high-level corporate finance and investment strategies in a dynamic and fluid environment, over multiple funding streams.  This responsibility requires being service oriented relative to the financial needs of all departments while still assuring that all transactions adhere to Kinexus Group policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles and rules established through various federal, state and local fund sources.  Strategic leadership abilities are a must, with discipline and perseverance to support a strong, energized team environment grounded in trust.

OUR DESIRED OUTCOMES:

The Chief Financial Officer will conduct successful cost-benefit analysis, budget management, forecasting and compliance with all contractual and programmatic requirements relating to financial health of the Corporation and its Subsidiaries.   In addition to the procedural responsibilities in this role, the CFO is responsible for the overall management of the Finance Department including the development of staff.   The CFO is a member of the Corporate Management and Leadership teams and works closely with the organizational staff.   S/he must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:

The Chief Financial Officer will have strong analytical skills and a keen attention to detail.  They will provide leadership and supervision of the Finance Department staff, manage and oversee payroll, purchasing, accounts payable and contract invoicing functions.   They will manage cash flow and forecasting on a monthly basis.   They will prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements that are timely, accurate and useful for both internal and external audiences.   As an insightful leader, the CFO will establish yearly financial objectives and work with the leadership and finance team to ensure goals are met.  

  • Provides input into Kinexus Group business strategy and execution
  • Manages and leads the financial initiatives of Kinexus Group, Michigan Works and its subsidiaries
  • Serves as a member of the Kinexus Group Management Team
  • Strategic Thinking - Uses sound judgment to identify financial opportunities and investments and makes decisions that are in alignment with Kinexus’ values, goals, and long-term vision.
  • Provides input into Kinexus business strategy and execution.
  • Manages and leads the financial initiatives of the organization and related entities
  • Directs financial or budget activities to fund operations and increase productivity and impact
  • Coordinates the development or implementation of internal control systems, recordkeeping systems, or other administrative control processes.
  • Interprets and explains policies, rules, regulations, or laws to organizations, government or corporate officials, or other necessary parties to staff and other stakeholders
  • Creates a uniform system for statement of activities reporting packages across subsidiaries
  • Coordinates the development or implementation of internal control systems, recordkeeping systems or other administrative control processes
  • Maintains a high percentage of error free findings from external audits and financial monitoring conducted by state and federal authorities as well as internal financial audits
  • Responsible for the hiring, supervision and development of the finance team by managing work allocation, training needs, problem resolution, performance reviews and creating an effective team dynamic
  • Serves as an officer and/or treasurer of Kinexus Group subsidiary boards of directors

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or related field (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in accounting with three years managing people and leading diverse teams
  • Experience with budget planning and management
  • Experience with financial reporting, government contracts and the annual audit process
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize information and present compelling messages to the leadership team.
  • Successful track record of applying business management principles.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data, interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, rules, regulations and policies controlling budgetary and fiscal record keeping
  • Ability to interpret and provide accurate financial data to management to enable them to make business decisions on a timely basis
  • Experience participating in goal setting, strategic, program development, implementation and evaluation as it applies to fiscal decision making within a grant environment
  • Experience in the private, public and/or non-government organization sectors
  • Understanding of federal and state workforce development rules and regulations
  • Prior knowledge of economic and workforce and community development
  • Demonstrates integrity, strives for excellence in her/his work and has experience of leading others to new levels of collaboration, accountability, effectiveness and operational optimization.
  • Ability to influence outcomes and inspire others in complex, quickly changing environments

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Master’s degree in accounting, business administration, public administration or related field 
  • CPA certification
  • Experience in leadership, preferably in a nonprofit organization with multiple funding streams

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
  • Must be willing and able to travel approximately 30% of the time between Berrien, Cass and VanBuren counties
