JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for planning, overseeing, and directing of the operations of the Material Management Department related to purchasing, inventory control, courier services, switchboard, mail room, receptionist and shipping/receiving.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Directs the purchasing function involving the evaluation and selection of equipment and supplies for the Medical Center.
- Negotiates with vendors regarding the purchase of capital equipment.
- Oversees the inventory control function including receiving, storage, and distribution of incoming and outgoing supplies and equipment.
- Responsible for the hiring, training, evaluation, and necessary discipline within the department.
- Manages relationship with GPO's and key vendors.
- Reviews recommendations and provides guidance and counsel to subordinate supervisors regarding team member relations matters.
- Develops departmental budget. Manages department to meet budget.
- Participates in various institutional committees concerned with equipment and supplies and their utilization, standardization, evaluation, and related matters.
- Negotiates contracts with suppliers and distributors for products and services.
- Negotiates with vendors to secure cost effective acquisition of service contracts and repair and maintenance services.
- Reviews cost analyses, inventory reports, and related statistical data to remain current with the operational and financial status of the institution's supplies, equipment, and inventory.
- Administers departmental and institutional policies and procedures.
- Works with other hospital managers and executives in developing justifications for capital equipment, supplies, and services.
- Acts as an advisor and resource to all departments with regard to supply, equipment, and service needs.
- Approves contracts with major suppliers and distributors.
- Develops short and long-range goals and objectives for the Materials Management Department.
- Develops strategies to enhance distribution, minimize cost of supplies, and reduce inventory while ensuring the availability of high quality supplies and equipment and the avoidance of shortages.
- Provides cost-benefit analyses to decisions in product selection.
- Oversees centralized purchasing of supplies, equipment, and services including those purchased directly by departments.
- Develops standard procedures and specifications for sending out invitations to bid.
- Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of approximately 40 team members in the purchasing, inventory control, courier services, switchboard, and mailroom. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises one non-supervisory team member.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirement:

Bachelor's degree (B.B.A.) from four-year college or university

Preferred qualifications:
-
Master's degree (M.B.A.)

Five years related experience and/or training in a hospital environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
