Overview:
Under general supervision, performs professional work for the King William County Commissioner of the Revenue. Work involves reviewing and analyzing financial and real estate transactions and documents; reconciling accounts and/or transactions; posting transactions and/or preparing reports on financial activities and accounts. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. This position reports to and serves at the discretion of the King William Commissioner of the Revenue.

Essential Functions:

  • Administer state and local laws relating to the assessment and billing of County taxes.
  • Assess the value of and audit personal property and accounts.
  • Receive and process high mileage applications for personal property taxation.
  • Communicate and research boats at the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries for customers.
  • Performs issuance of business licenses per county ordinance.
  • Research archived records and history files for personal property and real estate.
  • Provide information to the public and real estate professionals.
  • Research information related to ownership title, data archives and file information.
  • Develops statistical reports and various other research and tax documentation.
  • Performs adjustments to all types of taxes upon receipt of adequate documentation.
  • Generates supplements of personal property, real estate and business license.
  • Prepares abatements of real estate, personal property, and business licenses when erroneously assessed.
  • Responds to customer requests, inquiries and problems in person and on telephone, assisting with resolutions using tact, courtesy and good judgement.
  • Assist taxpayers with real estate questions regarding tax maps, deed documents, assessment information, etc.
  • Serves as back up for other positions within the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office.
  • Performs related duties as directed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must be proficient in Microsoft applications. Successful completion of college courses in accounting and math is preferred, experience, or training in GAAP accounting, government accounting or business administration preferred. The ability to work professionally with the general public and work under pressure is a necessity.

**Potential candidates will be required to complete drug testing, driving and background checks.**

Pay: $32,295.00 - $51,672.00 per year
