What are the responsibilities and job description for the Low Boy Driver position at King?
Purpose:
Perform duties to drive a tractor and lowboy, tilt deck, or drop deck trailer for the purpose of transporting construction equipment machinery or materials in the safest and most expedient manner.
Job Duties:
Perform pre-trip inspection which includes: checking oil, water, fuel, tires, lights on the tractor and trailer, chains, blinders and other tool each morning prior to starting the day’s activities. Report any problems or malfunctions to supervisor.
Receive job assignment form supervisor or dispatcher, drive to specified area to pick up equipment or material to be moved. Load or monitor the loading of equipment or material onto the trailer. Thoroughly secure the load prior to transporting.
The ability to determine weights, heights and widths prior to transporting equipment or material and notify supervisor of any possible problems.
The ability to transport equipment or material to the appointed destination in a safe and efficient manner, comply with all company, DOT, Federal, State and local safety regulations.
The ability to complete a trip ticket for each move made or keep receipt for materials hauled and turn tickets in to the supervisor.
The ability to complete the daily DOT log book and turn in as required to supervisor or dispatcher. Complete and turn in other required forms and reports to supervisor or dispatcher.
Perform minor maintenance and repairs to tractor and trailers such as painting, washing, cleaning, re-flooring, fueling, etc.
Follow all safety rules and Company policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge:
Use of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of numbers including decimals and fractions, check reports, forms, records and comparable data where interpretation is required.
Experience: Over two and up to three years to become familiar with the safe and proper operation of a tractor trailer with heavy and oversize loads, proper loading and securing tractor equipment or materials for safe transport and the proper use and operation of detachable and drop trailers.
Physical Activity: Position requires the ability to climb in and out of tractor unit, on and off of trailer and in and out of construction equipment as required. The position requires the ability to grasp, to push and pull levers, and to operate foot pedals. Such physical activity to operate control levers is repetitive in motion of the wrist, hands and or fingers. Position required ability to express or Exchange ideas by means of the spoken Word in English and the ability to perceive sounds and receive detailed information through oral communications, and to make fine discrimination in equipment noises which may indicate mechanical problems.
