JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for cleaning, sterilizing and assembling equipment, supplies and instruments.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Cleans, sterilizes and assembles equipment, supplies and instruments.
Decontaminates surgical instruments, container syringes, surgical linen and equipment.
Prepares packs of supplies and instruments.
Prepares control system for supplies processed.
Places sterilized items in proper storage area after processing.
Performs other assigned duties as needed.
Good mechanical aptitude, with ability to troubleshoot and work independently.
Must have the ability to identify all surgical instruments immediately to respond to emergency situations which may develop in the Operating Room.
Must demonstrate competence in the assembly and preparation of complex instrument trays for a variety of surgical cases and do so in a minimal amount of time during urgent or emergency procedures. (10-20 min. maximum).
High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Operating Room Technician Program Completion, Sterile Processing Program Completion, or one year post operating room/central service experience
Preferred qualifications:
Obtain Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) and/or Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), (CRCST) within one year of hire.
HSPA Certification of Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) within one year of hire
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.
Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequently required to stand; walk; sit
Constantly use hands to finger, handle, or feel
Constantly reach with hands and arms: climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.
Frequently lift and or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
